The County STOP-DWI incorporates various local efforts to reduce alcohol and other drug related traffic crashes, funded through fines collected from violators. Programs include traffic safety, prosecution of offenses, and treatment services.

Administrates Victim Impact Panel for DWI offenders, provides assistance to local SADD chapters, public awareness about drinking and driving, and funding for DWI road patrols and police equipment.

Provides immediate emotional support as well as guidance through the criminal justice system and a wide range of free literature to victims and their families.

Provides research-based informal education programs that encourage girls to take risks and master physical, intellectual, and emotional challenges. Programs address math and science education, pregnancy and drug abuse prevention, media literacy, economic literacy, adolescent health, violence prevention, and sports participation.

Legislated in NYS as a response to injuries and deaths caused by drunk drivers. Provides a general deterrence approach with four major components. Enforcement - includes 13 local police departments, sheriffs and state police. Adjudication - includes public defenders, prosecution and magistrates. Rehabilitation - includes an alcohol abuse counselor and a probation officer. Education - includes many programs geared to raising public awareness with a particular focus on students in local schools. The program is entirely funded through drunk driving fines received through town, village, city and county courts. No Yates County tax dollars are involved.

A program that brings the Victim Impact Panel model into local high schools as part of the studentâs application for a parking permit to allow students to drive to school. The program mandates that both the student and a parent attend this modified VIP which includes victims of substance related crashes as well as representatives from the District Attorneyâs Office, the insurance industry and the medical community. Parents and students gain an understanding of the serious legal, medical, insurance and emotional costs resulting from drinking, drugging and driving. Families are asked to create a driving contract.

NYS Liquor Authority approved specifically for alcohol servers: establishment owners, bartenders, wait staff, bouncers, festival attendants, convenience store attendants and any other person responsible for serving/selling alcoholic beverages. Program designed to educate servers on best practices of policies and legal responsibilities related to serving alcohol in a retail environment. CPR Online version fee of $35.00 required per participant.

Educational program that attempts to discourage adolescents and adults from driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs that have an impact on their reflexes or judgment. The objective of the program is to reduce the incidence of accidents caused by drinking/drug-impaired drivers.

Provides education to the community on alcohol and drug impaired driving. Administers andCoordinates countywide impaired driving grant project, Coordinated Checkpoints and enforcement campaign. Educational and Informational materials are also available for schools, clubs and civic organizations.

This program provides licensed counselors in 4 districts and 10 schools offering substance abuse prevention education and counseling to students, faculties, families and communities through individual and group counseling, information and referral services, as well as familiy communication programs.

Is the newest tool in the fight against drunk driving. It's a battery-powered, remote-controlled vehicle that resembles a go-cart and simulates the experience of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. SIDNE is now being introduced to enable high school students, college students, and parents to experience firsthand the often unimagined impact of driving while under the influence. SIDNE is a prevention initiative utilized and demonstrated in a collaborative effort by NCADD Putnam, Communities That Care Coalition and the Putnam County Youth Bureau, to deliver engaging and hands-on lessons about the misuse and abuse of alcohol and other drugs and the dangers of distracted driving. SIDNE activities include fatal vision goggles, simulated field sobriety test, activities to exhibit weight to alcohol consumption comparison, and activities to exhibit the ease of getting distracted while driving. The Victim Impact Panel is a program that serves the entire community by providing a monthly forum on the painful consequences of drunk/drugged driving from people whose lives have been forever changed by an impaired driver. People convicted of DWI and DWAI are mandated by the courts to attend VIP with the aim of reducing recidivism. The program is available in English and Spanish. There is also educational component available for those offenders who are under 21 years of age.
