Prevention services for young people and families who may be at risk for substance use disorder. Evidence-based interventions and workshops include Active Parenting, Strengthening Families, Teen Intervene, Too Good For Drugs (in the schools), and individual counseling.

An early intervention program targeting 12 to 19 year-olds who display the early stages of alcohol or drug use problems (e.g., using or possessing drugs during school) but do not use these substances daily or demonstrate substance dependence. Integrating stages of change theory, motivational enhancement, and cognitive-behavioral therapy, this intervention aims to help teens reduce and ultimately eliminate their alcohol and other drug use.

Services include registration, assessment, individual service strategy, tutoring, study skills training, alternative school, summer employment, work experience, internships, job shadowing, occupational skills training, leadership development activities, community service, peer centered activities, supportive services, adult mentoring, follow-up services, guidance and counseling, drug and alcohol abuse counseling and referral. Additional sites at Long Beach, Hicksville and Freeport.

Provides a specialized drug and alcohol abuse education program geared towards school students, which includes building self esteem and skills to resist peer pressure.

The Victim Impact Panel is a program that serves the entire community by providing a monthly forum on the painful consequences of drunk/drugged driving from people whose lives have been forever changed by an impaired driver. People convicted of DWI and DWAI are mandated by the courts to attend VIP with the aim of reducing recidivism. The program is available in English and Spanish. There is also educational component available for those offenders who are under 21 years of age.

Provides a program, in collaboration with the local school district, to educate students on the impact and dangers of alcohol and drug use, including building self esteem skills and ways to resist peer pressure.

Healthy Orange provides information, activities and programs to improve public and individual health. Utilizes government and community resources to promote good nutrition, exercise and cessation of smoking. Implementation of this program is in school settings, through worksite wellness programs and with the general population.

Provides information to help anyone who wants to quit smoking, along with smoking ordinances and the law.

Provides a family/friends program that is free and open to the public. The program explores major aspects of the interaction of addiction and family dynamics -- family disease concept, responsibility, defining self, etc. This program is for anyone who knows and cares about a chemically dependent person.

Educates youth about the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse, and ways in which to resist becoming involved with them, and helping those who are struggling with addiction.

Offers Character Education Series for preschool-high school audiences. Topics include Anger Management, Bullies/Teasing, Friendships, Suicide/Depression, Substance Use/Abuse, Diversity/Tolerance, Self-esteem, Peer Pressures, stranger awareness, expressing feelings and more. Available for Health Fairs, Awareness Days, Community Events, and Facilitator/Staff Trainings.

Offers weekly rap sessions, drug information workshops, referral services, and parent sessions for youth and their parents to discuss the impact and strategies to address drug use issues.

OASAS licensed alcohol, drug and gambling prevention programs to educate youth and their parents about alcohol, drug and gambling abuse, and the resources that are available if families are already experiencing problems.

Educates students on alcohol and drug abuse and helps those who are struggling with addiction.

Provides a 30 day orientation program, counseling, recreational outings, chemical dependency education, relapse prevention and anger management. Offers individuals who are trying to stop smoking an intensive 5 week stop-smoking class focusing on behavior changes and medication use. Group or individual quit programs are available. Please call for exact dates and times.

Provides a drug and alcohol prevention program, In partnership with the local school system, where local police educate school students on the dangers and impacts of alcohol and drug abuse, along with building self esteem and skills to resist peer pressure.

Goal of the At-Risk Youth Jail Tour is to educate youth about the potential consequences of poor choices. A growing number of Suffolk County`s youth are in danger of falling prey to criminal and gang activity. Young teens especially face peer pressures that often make them act in ways that help them become “accepted” by a group, but they have no idea about the consequences of their behavior. As a result, many young people at an early age begin what may become a painful life of criminal behavior. These tours must be scheduled in advance and the youth must be accompanied by a parent. Programs offered include licensed after school and recess camp programs, adult/youth tennis (year round), swimming lessons, water aerobics (year round), lap swim (year round), after-school gym programs, toddler programs, Badminton (year round), adult floor hockey, basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, youth basketball lessons, open basketball, and floor hockey. Playground and playmobile (mobile playground). Concerts in the parks and various special events available during the year. Also provides programs for individuals with disabilities. For adults, offers social programs, crafts (year round), and Special Olympic training in basketball, track, and swimming. For youth, offers Special Olympic training, swimming, basketball, track, and social programs. Services available for dropouts/early school intervention/first offenders. Works to unite community resources for the aid of disadvantaged/problem youth. Offers drug abuse prevention services.

Provides outpatient substance abuse services for individuals suffering from alcohol or drug related problems and their family members. Individual and family assessments, referrals for detox, and other treatments are available. Offers short and long term treatment groups, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) group, individual and family therapy. Also offers intensive outpatient treatment with medical enhancement available, and an opiate recovery program that includes suboxone treatment. Women's Services are provided through ongoing early intervention, case management, vocational placement services, HIV assessment, counseling, and linkage to ECMC AIDS Services. Expanded culturally sensitive services are available for African American populations, Hispanic populations, gay and lesbian populations, older adults/seniors, and others. Outpatient services are offered for individuals arrested for DWI offenses, with both short and long term intervention and treatment groups. Involvement of families is encouraged with treatment services provided through the Downtown Clinic at the same location. Length of program is 3-9 months.
