Vouchers provided at the Ithaca Free ClinicVouchers are for acute conditions and medications for no more than fourteen (14) days.If an individual DOES NOT receive an Urgent Rx voucher with his/her prescriptions at the time of discharge, he or she must contact the location which issued the prescriptions to verify that the medications are covered by Urgent Rx.Prescriptions can be filled ONLY in Tompkins County at specific pharmacies listed on the voucher.Medications for chronic conditions, e.g., diabetes, asthma, cancer, heart conditions, are not covered.NOTE TO CALL SPECIALISTS: If a caller needs help in obtaining medication for chronic conditions, refer him/her to the Community Health Advocates Program of the Human Services Coalition or to Needymeds.org or Rx Outreach.

Prescription Expense Assistance
All volunteers complete a mandatory 20-hour training program. Patient care volunteers help patients and families with household chores, shopping, transportation, and companionship. This is done in the patient's home setting, whatever that may be. Patient care volunteers are also utilized in our 6-bed residence to help prepare and serve meals and to provide companionship.Specially trained and/or professional volunteers also support bereaved families, play music, give massages, and provide pet visits. Additional volunteer support includes tending our gardens, lending a hand in the office, grocery shopping for the residence, and helping with fundraising events.If you become a volunteer, you will be asked to: Attend the 20-hour mandatory training session Make a commitment of 2-4 hours a week for a minimum of one year Attend continuing education and support meetings to enhance your skills and knowledge of hospice Be reliable and prompt when performing assignments Participate in an annual review Successfully pass a background check Comply with the policies and procedures of the organizationFor more information, please visit www.hospicare.org/volunteers
