Provides weekly programs at the Batavia Senior Center. Some of the programs offered are bridge, line dancing, cribbage, arthritis chair-based exercise, quilters, and painting classes. New groups are always being organized. Special programs such as 55 Alive Driver Refresher Course, educational, health, and informational programs are also offered. Day trips to concerts, exhibits, musical productions, restaurants, and areas of special interest are also scheduled in the spring, summer, and fall. Senior groups and clubs exist in most areas of the county which offer luncheons and pot luck dinners. Most groups offer programs of interest, entertainment, day trips, and other recreational activities.

The MV-285 allows students with a NYS Junior Permit to schedule a road test, receive their senior license at the age of 17 instead of 18, and may be eligible for a rate reduction in their automobile insurance. This program consists of 25.5 hours of classroom instruction and 25.5 hours of behind the wheel training and observation. Effective July 1, this course will be offered in-person, on the Ammerman Campus in Selden. Please note that XDT100 and XDT200 are corequisites and must be taken together and successfully completed to obtain the MV-285. These Defensive Driving courses are approved by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles as a course provider under the Point and Insurance Reduction Program (PIRP). Drivers may be eligible to reduce as many as 4 points on your driving record. Principal owners of a vehicle until receive a miminimum of 10% reduction in the base rate of your auto or motor cycle liability and collision insurance premiums for 3 years. Offers an Adaptive Driver Training program for individuals exhibiting physical or non-physical disabling conditions. Candidates can be first-time drivers or re-trainees. All prospective students must possess a New York State learner permit or valid driver license. Additionally, students are required to undergo a thorough driving evaluation to determine whether the student possesses the appropriate physical, mental, and emotional abilities necessary for success in driver training. All vehicles are fully equipped with adaptive driving equipment for those with physical limitations. One-on-one training is individualized and designed to teach driving habits and skills necessary to pass a New York State road test. The service is available to all school districts, as well as state and private rehabilitation programs and those with a physician’s referral. This course is designated as the Regional Adaptive Driver Training Program of Suffolk County for the Handicapped by the Office of Adult Career and Continuing Education Services – Vocational Rehabilitation.
