Provides for the administration, operation and maintenance of State parks, trails, camp grounds, recreation and historic sites and manages several municipal and not-for-profit grant-in-aid programs. Provides a variety of programs and special events throughout the year. Programs are designed to meet the needs of the general public.

Offers customers the opportunity to enjoy the wooded lands and reservoirs for fishing, bird watching, hiking, or other outdoor recreational activities in Oradell, Woodcliff Lake, Lake DeForest and Lake Tappan. Some places are also handicap accessible.

Provides a walkway from an old railroad bridge transformed into a park and walkway providing public access for pedestrians, hikers, joggers, bicyclists, and people with disabilities to the Hudson River's scenic landscape. The bridge serves as a connector to an extensive network of rail trails on both sides of the river.

Offers approximately 9 miles of hiking and biking trails which is part of Long Island Greenbelt Trail System, bird watching, horseback riding and cross country skiing.

Offers 27 miles of trails, bridle paths, nature walks (by reservation), and fishing (by permit), bicycling, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, environmental education and historical buildings. Events include Winter Run and Summer Run Series.

Manages more than 70 parks, preserves, museums, historic properties, and athletic facilities comprising 6,000 acres throughout the county. The Parks department operates numerous museums and plays host to others by providing the property and physical facilities as well as other services. These museums provide a range of artistic and educational experiences for the public. In addition the Parks Department manages numerous nature preserves. Offers ocean front camping (April to mid November for tent and trailer sites), hiking, nature trails, hunting, swimming, 2.5 miles of ocean beach, salt water surf fishing, fresh water fishing (w/NYS fishing license), softball field, volleyball courts, playgrounds, picnic areas, general store, bridle paths, and cross country skiing. Summer events include line dancing and sandcastle contests.
