This program is designed for children 3-8 explore and learn about nature with an adult. During this program there is a brief lesson, nature walk, snack, and craft. Each month, the visitors will learn about a different nature based topic.
Comprised of 1288 acres, this park offers a variety of facilities, events, and services including the beach off Long Island Sound, swimming, hiking trails (including the Greenbelt Trail), bicycling, picnic areas, refreshments/cafeteria, boardwalk, golf facilities (9 and 18 hole courses, putting green, driving range, clubhouse, pro-shop, golf tournaments), winter run and summer run series, cross country skiing, model airplane show, spring golf outing, and high school and college cross country running. Bicycles restricted from Boardwalk. No pets allowed year round in park.

Offers a 62-acre site set along Hempstead Harbor on the scenic North Shore, Garvies Point includes permanent exhibits and educational programs devoted to regional geology and Native-American archaeology. In addition, changing exhibits cover a variety of natural history subjects. There are about five miles of marked nature trails including trails for the visually impaired. Offers several summer intern positions at a not for profit organization, dedicated to providing native wildlife rehabilitation services and natural science education. The interns will assist with animal care of permanently disabled wildlife and the rehabilitation of wildlife brought to the center. The candidates should have a love of animals and preferably some experience working with animals. This is a unique opportunity to work with a variety of wildlife, from turtles to owls, close up. With the help of experienced naturalists and rehabilitators the intern can learn a great deal about the natural history and habits of each individual species as he/she helps prepare them to return to the wild. The animal care intern will assist with feeding, record keeping, routine care of patients, treatments and evaluations. Although we are excited to accommodate an intern or volunteer at any time during the year the greatest need is during the months of May, June, July, August and September. It is preferred that interns work at least 15 and 20 hours per week and must be 18 years of age or older. Other internships include Butterfly and Moth Vivarium Intern, Garden Intern and Summer Education Intern. Those willing to volunteer their time are always welcome. Call for more information.

Offers 6.5 miles of ocean beaches, part of a 2,413-acre park. Main attractions include swimming, surf fishing, and a 14,400-seat amphitheater. Facilities include pools, bathhouses, band shell, 2-mile boardwalk, 2-mile health walk, 4-mile bike path, boat basin, 4-finger piers, bait station, surf casting, picnic areas, 4 basketball courts, 22 shuffleboard courts, 8 volleyball courts, paddle tennis, equipment rentals, pitch-putt golf, 2 softball fields, food stands, boardwalk restaurant(new construction pending), ice cream parlor, and exhibits. Lifeguards available, hours and dates vary. Summer events include New York Air Show, a volleyball tournament, an Independence Day fireworks program, Summer Run Series and Pitch Putt Tournament. Located at the former Frick Estate, a spectacular 145-acre property in Roslyn Harbor in the heart of Long Island's fabled Gold Coast. The main museum building, named in honor of art collectors and philanthropists Arnold and Joan Saltzman, is a three-story Georgian mansion that exemplifies Gold Coast architecture of the late 19th century. In addition to the Arnold & Joan Saltzman Fine Art Building, Nassau County Museum of Art includes the Sculpture Park, Formal Gardens of historic importance, the Pinetum, ponds, woodlands, an architecturally-significant restored trellis, rare specimen trees, and marked walking trails. Serves more than 18,000 Long Island school children and their teachers who visit the museum each year for exhibition tours and art-related activities. The Education Department additionally sponsors extensive programming for children, adults and family groups and also offers professional development to Long Island's educators.
