Staff work with families, when appropriate, to address conditions which adversely affect a child's care. Staff work with families directly, and coordinate services with community resources to improve family conditions. Provides supportive and/or rehabilitative services to families with children who are at risk, while ensuring safety and permanence for children. Also is responsible for the provision of child protective services, foster care and adoption services.

Offers therapeutic community based residential treatment for youth. Services include medical/dental care, individual, group and family therapy, substance abuse risk assessment and counseling. Each youth has an individualized care plan and addresses academic needs, mental health needs, substance abuse needs and skills necessary to work toward self sufficiency. Each of the homes are supervised 24 hours per day and the staff includes MSW's, Residential Counselors and Bachelor's level professionals. There is currently one adolescent boys home and one adolescent girls home.

Assesses and investigates all cases of child or dependent adult abuse and/or maltreatment reports. Works with other family agencies to access services for the needs of abused, neglected or abandoned children or dependent adults.

Provides medical care, social and psychological assessment, patient/family education and support, and child advocacy. Service works closely with social services and law enforcement agencies as evidentiary interviews are performed. Follow-up care and referrals are available.

Provides a highly structured, nurturing, corrective experience for males, ages 12-16, who have serious adjustment difficulties. Assists in educational, social and coping skills for reunification with family and community. Special programs for hard to place juvenile delinquents.

Provides case management services to assist families in staying together when a child is at risk of entering foster care and/or to hasten the return home of children in foster care. May include referrals for supportive services such as child care assistance (income guidelines may apply).

Provides services to prevent out of home placement for children whose families are referred by Nassau County DSS.. Outreach services include assessment of family concerns, intensive counseling, clinical services including individual and family therapy, referral to other necessary agencies, advocacy, parent education/groups, social/educational activities for the whole family.

Responsible for investigating all allegations of Child Abuse and Neglect received by the Department from the New York Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment, part of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. Anyone can make a report of Child Abuse and/or Neglect if he/she is suspicious that a child (0-18 yrs of age) is being neglected or abused. The source of the report as well as the report is kept confidential. The source can be anonymous if the reporter is not mandated by law to report. Provides child and family programs including includes the Adult Protective Services (APS), Child Protective Services (CPS), Preventive Services, Foster Care, Adoption, and Juvenile Services units. Adult Protective Services provides protective and preventive services to adults 18 years of age and older where there is an inability to act on their own behalf with the aim of ensuring self-determination, and the ability to live as safely and independently as possible in the community. Child Protective Services role is to investigate, intervene and support family and caregivers ability to safely care for their children where there are allegations of abuse and maltreatment of children. Preventive Services works in the homes at-risk children providing supportive and rehabilitative services that are trauma-informed, solution-focused, child centered, and strength based to prevent out-of-home placement and to assist families to return their children from foster care at an earlier time, while foster care offers children a safe living environment while assistance is offered to families and caregivers. Juvenile Services Team is a community-collaboration aimed at preventing out of home placement and institutional care for juveniles and adolescents and reducing the likelihood of contact with the criminal justice system.

Investigates reports of child abuse, neglect or abandonment; documents substantiated cases; provides for the temporary placement of children who, for their own protection, have been removed from the custody of the adults who are responsible for their care; works with families who are experiencing a problem with child abuse with the objective of facilitating continued family unification or reunification; and provides ongoing supportive services for children in permanent placement.
