Receives and responds to all reports of child abuse and maltreatment on a 24-hour basis. CPS carries out the statutory mandates of protecting children and providing rehabilitative services to families.
To report suspected child abuse or neglect, call New York State Child Abuse Hotline, 800-342-3720.Cortland County Child Protective Services receives these reports 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is mandated to investigate them.
Provides support to children and families to prevent out-of-home placement of children. Provides support and stabilization to children in foster care placement. Offers support to youth and their families to identify their strengths and needs as they work to address the symptoms of their mental health diagnosis or behavioral health needs.
Provides a safe, child-friendly, setting to conduct forensic interviews, medical examinations, and overall support and advocacy for child victims and their non-offending family members wherein allegations of sexual or physical abuse are present in either a criminal or child protective investigation.

Investigates child abuse and maltreatment reports to protect children (under 18 years old) from further abuse or maltreatment and to provide rehabilitative services to children, parents, and other family members involved.
Offers therapeutic community based residential treatment for youth. Services include medical/dental care, individual, group and family therapy, substance abuse risk assessment and counseling. Each youth has an individualized care plan and addresses academic needs, mental health needs, substance abuse needs and skills necessary to work toward self sufficiency. Each of the homes are supervised 24 hours per day and the staff includes MSW's, Residential Counselors and Bachelor's level professionals. There is currently one adolescent boys home and one adolescent girls home.

Recruits, trains, and certifies foster and adoptive families, and arranges placement of children into appropriate homes. Children may be unable to stay with their family for a variety of reasons, and placement may be temporary or in some cases permanent.
