This class is for parents/caregivers of children who are easily frustrated, extremely inflexible, lose control, and become verbally and/or physically aggressive. The course is based on the work of Ross W. Greene, Ph.D., author of The Explosive Child. Caregivers will learn how to understand and handle explosive behaviors and prevent meltdowns, establish realistic expectations, improve parent interactions, and how to help their child recognize, express, and think through frustrations.
Partners with community organizations to support programs for parents and caregivers that include assessment, guidance, treatment, and/or parenting education for young and developing families. Our trained and experienced clinicians offer: Supportive services for families with babies and young children in our clinic, on location in a school or other appropriate setting, via home visiting, or Telehealth; Developmentally informed, dyadic trauma treatment for 0-6 year-olds and their parents; Clinicians are fully rostered in Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), an evidence-based trauma intervention; we are the only clinic on Long Island able to provide CPP training; Consultation for mental health, behavioral, and/or developmental concerns; Consultation in childcare, school, or other group settings; Consultation in health care settings, such as hospitals or primary care clinics; Parent education and guidance; Support groups for parents, or kinship caregivers, in our clinic or on location in the community and Psychoeducational and reflective groups for parents in our clinic or on location in the community. This interactive program is designed to build skills with parents who have children ages 3 - 9 and parents with youth ages 10-18 (older version includes the youth in program). The facilitator guides the family through the scenarios and tailors the program to meet individual needs. Parenting Wisely can be done in 2 to 3 sessions and scheduling is flexible.Group Family Sessions - held every Spring and Fall on Thursday evenings for 3 weeks with dinner provided, along with child care for younger siblings. Limited transportation available

* Links elderly to appropriate non-medical support services so that they may remain safely in their own homes through the EISEP program.* Provides parenting and conflict resolution training to families in distress and/or with children at risk of removal from the home through Incredible Years parenting program. Offers parenting education through weekly workshops that help parents gain knowledge about positive parenting practices, child development, and age-appropriate expectations for their children.

Thriving with Your Spirited Child: a seven week program with information about temperaments. Develop effective strategies for dealing with temper tantrums and power struggles.
