INSTITUTE FOR PARENTING | ADELPHI UNIVERSITY

Partners with community organizations to support programs for parents and caregivers that include assessment, guidance, treatment, and/or parenting education for young and developing families. Our trained and experienced clinicians offer: Supportive services for families with babies and young children in our clinic, on location in a school or other appropriate setting, via home visiting, or Telehealth; Developmentally informed, dyadic trauma treatment for 0-6 year-olds and their parents; Clinicians are fully rostered in Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), an evidence-based trauma intervention; we are the only clinic on Long Island able to provide CPP training; Consultation for mental health, behavioral, and/or developmental concerns; Consultation in childcare, school, or other group settings; Consultation in health care settings, such as hospitals or primary care clinics; Parent education and guidance; Support groups for parents, or kinship caregivers, in our clinic or on location in the community and Psychoeducational and reflective groups for parents in our clinic or on location in the community. Community Parent & Child Bonding Program (CPCB) - Family Help Center

Offers services to families currently homeless, facing potential homelessness, or displaced by domestic violence. Helps parents of children ages 0-8 understand their children's development, improves parenting skills, offers opportunities for parents to build their protective factors, provides support for parents feeling isolated, and offers a safe, supportive space for parents to focus on bonding with their children. Parent Promoters work with parents in group settings and one-on-one sessions to ensure parents have the opportunity to enhance their parenting skills. Sessions focus on child development and social-emotional competence in infants and young children. Services include: - Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ): Designed to assess a child's development in regards to communication, fine motor, gross motor, problem solving, and personal-social abilities, in order to detect learning delays early on. Linkages to early intervention services offered when necessary. Parent Promoters can show parents how to engage with their child in the different developmental areas and provide parents with age-appropriate activities to do with their child. - Positive Solutions for Families (PSF): An evidence-based curriculum designed for parents with children ages 3-7. Assists parents in learning positive and effective techniques to promote their children's social and emotional development. Involves only the parents and facilitators; child care offered to participants when needed. Typically offers one session per week for six weeks. - Parents Interacting with Infants (PIWI): A parent-child playgroup designed for parents and their children ages 6 weeks to 3 years old. Offers a fun, interactive setting where parents can play with their children, learn about their child's development, and build connections with other parents. Typically offers one session per week for five weeks. PSF and PIWI can be offered in a group setting within a homeless shelter, domestic violence program, at an agency, or in the community. They can also be offered one-on-one with a parent and Parent Promoter at an agency or in a home.

Parenting Classes - Falconer - Prevention Works

Offers 3 child development classes for parents. First Five Years Parenting: For parents of children from birth to 5 years old. Class consists of three virtual 2-hour sessions. Emphasis is placed on school readiness, brain development, brain building activities, mindfulness, and self-calming activities for parent and child. Active Parenting: For parents of children 5-12 years old. Class consists of three virtual 2-hour sessions. Program addresses how parents can raise responsible, cooperative children who are prepared to meet the challenges of their teen years, resist negative peer pressure, and thrive in the 21st century. Includes explanation on the workings of the developing child/adolescent brain, handling anger, what parents can do to help their child succeed in school, and the importance of contributing to the family via chores. Parents learn positive, non-violent discipline techniques so they can avoid power struggles. Active Parenting of Teens: Class consists of three virtual 2-hour sessions. Equips parents to meet the challenges of their children’s teen years in this complicated day and age.
