Training and consultation for professionals working with families offered throughout the year.

Comprehensive child development program that provides educational experiences, nutritional meals, counseling and opportunities for parental involvement to help prepare low income children and children with disabilities succeed in school Licensed child care center Preschool special education.

This class is for parents/caregivers of children who are easily frustrated, extremely inflexible, lose control, and become verbally and/or physically aggressive. The course is based on the work of Ross W. Greene, Ph.D., author of The Explosive Child. Caregivers will learn how to understand and handle explosive behaviors and prevent meltdowns, establish realistic expectations, improve parent interactions, and how to help their child recognize, express, and think through frustrations.

Partners with community organizations to support programs for parents and caregivers that include assessment, guidance, treatment, and/or parenting education for young and developing families. Our trained and experienced clinicians offer: Supportive services for families with babies and young children in our clinic, on location in a school or other appropriate setting, via home visiting, or Telehealth; Developmentally informed, dyadic trauma treatment for 0-6 year-olds and their parents; Clinicians are fully rostered in Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), an evidence-based trauma intervention; we are the only clinic on Long Island able to provide CPP training; Consultation for mental health, behavioral, and/or developmental concerns; Consultation in childcare, school, or other group settings; Consultation in health care settings, such as hospitals or primary care clinics; Parent education and guidance; Support groups for parents, or kinship caregivers, in our clinic or on location in the community and Psychoeducational and reflective groups for parents in our clinic or on location in the community. This interactive program is designed to build skills with parents who have children ages 3 - 9 and parents with youth ages 10-18 (older version includes the youth in program). The facilitator guides the family through the scenarios and tailors the program to meet individual needs. Parenting Wisely can be done in 2 to 3 sessions and scheduling is flexible.Group Family Sessions - held every Spring and Fall on Thursday evenings for 3 weeks with dinner provided, along with child care for younger siblings. Offers parenting education through weekly workshops that help parents gain knowledge about positive parenting practices, child development, and age-appropriate expectations for their children.

Home visitors provide parent education and support to strengthen families and improve parent/child interaction.

Provides six 2-hour skill sessions for parents of children of all ages including effective praise, staying calm and teaching self-control to children, building a close parent-child relationship, and giving clear messages with expectations and consequences.

Parenting Skills: eight hands-on, interactive sessions to foster family communication skills, such as encouragement, can do, choices, self-control and respecting feelings. FREE classes, snacks and childcare. Parenting Styles: 7 weeks, sessions on parenting styles and discipline, child development, cultural influences and environmental issues. Parenting Skills Facilitated Visits: pairs parenting educator with parent(s) and children working with the Tompkins County Department of Social Services' Children's Services Unit. Parenting Educator Facilitator Trainings: annual session for those using the curricula to increase quality parenting education in our community. Tompkins County Coalition for Families: ad hoc group of organizations and citizens creating a supportive community for children and families. Tompkins Families! Community specific programming in Dryden, Enfield, Groton, and Newfield. TF can also serve other communities in addition to the ones listed here. Thriving with Your Spirited Child: a seven week program with information about temperaments. Develop effective strategies for dealing with temper tantrums and power struggles.

* Offers strength-based parent education services for new parents and young parents, quality care education offered to working parents as part of child care resource and referral services, and early childhood enrichment programs. Also provides supervised visitation with a trained supervisor. Able to accommodate family and attorney requests as well as court ordered visitation.

Building Healthy Families Home-visiting program for pregnant and new parents. Early Head Start Community-based program for low-income families with infants and toddlers and pregnant women.Head Start Comprehensive preschool program that helps children from low-income families develop the early reading and math skills.Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) Offers four year old children access to prekindergarten programs.

Provides services to families to prevent child foster care placement, abuse, or neglect. Includes assessment, counseling, development of support systems, teaching positive parental functioning, day care, homemaker, and coordination of services.

Offers a parenting program that utilizes the Active Parenting curriculum which assists parents in reducing conflict, building better communication to develop closer relationships between parents and children.

* Offersmaterial assistance for expectant moms and parents such as diapers, formula,clothes, and other baby necessities. Other services include the following:Self-administered pregnancy tests.Options counseling, parenting and lifeskills classes through our "Earn While You Learn" Program, andabortion recovery.

Includes 4 programs:Jack O'Rourke Family Counseling Program: Provides long and short-term counseling to individuals, couples and families around a variety of issues by NYS Licensed Clinical Social Workers.Functional Family Therapy (FFT): An intensive outreach family counseling program operating in collaboration with DSS.Gateway Center for Youth: A free and confidential counseling program that offers short- term individual and psycho- educational group counseling (anger management, self- esteem, social skills, and parenting) to youth ages 8 to 21.Family Navigator Services: provided to youth and their families either when they don't meet criteria for other programs or have not been connected to them.
