Offers 3 child development classes for parents. First Five Years Parenting: For parents of children from birth to 5 years old. Class consists of three virtual 2-hour sessions. Emphasis is placed on school readiness, brain development, brain building activities, mindfulness, and self-calming activities for parent and child. Active Parenting: For parents of children 5-12 years old. Class consists of three virtual 2-hour sessions. Program addresses how parents can raise responsible, cooperative children who are prepared to meet the challenges of their teen years, resist negative peer pressure, and thrive in the 21st century. Includes explanation on the workings of the developing child/adolescent brain, handling anger, what parents can do to help their child succeed in school, and the importance of contributing to the family via chores. Parents learn positive, non-violent discipline techniques so they can avoid power struggles. Active Parenting of Teens: Class consists of three virtual 2-hour sessions. Equips parents to meet the challenges of their children's teen years in this complicated day and age.

Parenting education workshop for parents who are referred by the courts, other agencies, as well as self-referred parents who are not involved with the courts. Challenges such as substance abuse, mental health, custody and domestic violence are a few of the reasons parents attend the program. Several groups run at the same time and parents are placed in groups according to the age of their children. Workshop meets 3 hours once a week for 8 weeks.

Program is designed as a practical approach to help parents be more positive with their children and to use more effective discipline. Program consists of six two-hour group sessions led by a facilitator and parent trainer. Parents are taught skills that help them encourage positive behavior, discourage negative behavior, and teach alternatives to problem behavior.

Provides parenting education, parent counseling and case management to parents of young children. Families in need of food, clothing or concrete assistance are provided with information and referrals.

Provides bilingual/bicultural mental health treatment and support to Spanish speaking children, families and adults, including information and referral, parenting skills training, individual, group, couples and family therapy for children, adolescents and adults who prefer services in Spanish. Services include free self-administered pregnancy tests; referrals for a free onsite ultrasound confirmation (if onsite test is positive); pregnancy options consultations including abortion information, education, and resources; pregnancy and parenting classes, material aid, and more

* Offers strength-based parent education services for new parents and young parents, quality care education offered to working parents as part of child care resource and referral services, and early childhood enrichment programs. Also provides supervised visitation with a trained supervisor. Able to accommodate family and attorney requests as well as court ordered visitation.

Provides six 2-hour skill sessions for parents of children of all ages including effective praise, staying calm and teaching self-control to children, building a close parent-child relationship, and giving clear messages with expectations and consequences.

Parenting Skills: eight hands-on, interactive sessions to foster family communication skills, such as encouragement, can do, choices, self-control and respecting feelings. FREE classes, snacks and childcare. Parenting Styles: 7 weeks, sessions on parenting styles and discipline, child development, cultural influences and environmental issues. Parenting Skills Facilitated Visits: pairs parenting educator with parent(s) and children working with the Tompkins County Department of Social Services' Children's Services Unit. Parenting Educator Facilitator Trainings: annual session for those using the curricula to increase quality parenting education in our community. Tompkins County Coalition for Families: ad hoc group of organizations and citizens creating a supportive community for children and families. Tompkins Families! Community specific programming in Dryden, Enfield, Groton, and Newfield. TF can also serve other communities in addition to the ones listed here. Thriving with Your Spirited Child: a seven week program with information about temperaments. Develop effective strategies for dealing with temper tantrums and power struggles.

* Provides resources, care, advocacy, and support for fathers and father figures in the Black community.* Brings fathers and father figures together to build skills and to support each other in their critical roles as parents. * Offers re-entry program for fathers.

Services are offered from pregnancy until their child reaches age five. Home visitors bring toys, books, activities, and information to stimulate your child's development. They also complete developmental screenings, monitoring your child's milestones, and offer referrals to community resources. Home visitors are certified by the Parents As Teachers National Center as Parent Educators and use the Parents as Teachers curriculum.

Provides a drop-in center offering programming and activities for young children and their families including peer discussion and support, parenting education, and information and referral.

* Links elderly to appropriate non-medical support services so that they may remain safely in their own homes through the EISEP program.* Provides parenting and conflict resolution training to families in distress and/or with children at risk of removal from the home through Incredible Years parenting program. This interactive program is designed to build skills with parents who have children ages 3 - 9 and parents with youth ages 10-18 (older version includes the youth in program). The facilitator guides the family through the scenarios and tailors the program to meet individual needs. Parenting Wisely can be done in 2 to 3 sessions and scheduling is flexible.Group Family Sessions - held every Spring and Fall on Thursday evenings for 3 weeks with dinner provided, along with child care for younger siblings. Limited transportation available

Provides services to families to prevent child foster care placement, abuse, or neglect. Includes assessment, counseling, development of support systems, teaching positive parental functioning, day care, homemaker, and coordination of services.
