Independent Living provides a bridge between the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing cultures in Orange, Ulster, Sullivan and Dutchess Counties, this program is actively engaged in community outreach and education, employment, advocacy, service coordination, counseling and technical support.

Program that coordinates multicultural support services for the Hispanic/Latino population of Buffalo and Erie County. Services include Support Services, Interpretation, Food Pantry, and soup kitchen. Staff are completely bilingual and bicultural. ##REENTRY##

New York Relay Service is a statewide service that connects standard (voice) telephone users with deaf, hard-of-hearing, deaf-blind, speech-disabled, or late-deafened people who use text telephones (TTYs) or voice carry-over (VCO) phones. This service allows TTY or VCO users to communicate with standard telephone users through specially trained Relay Operators. Calls can be made to anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with no restrictions on the number, length, or type of calls.

Provides limited brailling of materials onto CDs or floppy disks for computer use. No full length books

Rehabilitation services for individuals who have visual and/or hearing impairments, plus makes referrals to sign language interpreters.

Offers Speech-impaired individuals who have their own TTY’s the ability to call Suffolk County Disabilities Government directly by telephone to conduct business. Video Relay Sign language interpreters and a 24-Hour Statewide TTY Relay Service is also available. In emergencies, persons with TTY’s may call 911 or 631-924-8811 for dispatch of an ambulance, police or fire department anywhere within Suffolk County, 24 hours a day. 24-hour statewide TTY relay service is provided through the cooperation of local telephone companies for calls within New York State phone. Provides outreach, crisis intervention, housing counseling, benefits advocacy, tenant/landlord mediation, representation in administration proceedings with government agencies, home ownership counseling and translation.

Program provides sign language interpreting and tutoring services to students in BOCES deaf and hard of hearing programs who require total communication support.

Provides Braille summaries of PSEG bills, along with regular statement, to blind individuals. Contracts with Helen Keller National Center in Sands Point to convert bills to Braille. Also offers 55% larger print bill for the visually impaired. Call to request either accommodation.

Provides Spanish-speaking individuals with confidential interpretation in a variety of medical and mental health settings, such as intake interviews, medical counseling visits, exams, surgical procedures, and emergencies. Translates all forms and documents, including certificates, flyers/brochures, web sites, and personal, legal, health, corporate, and governmental documents. Member of the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care.

Provides professional sign language interpreters to meet the needs of persons with hearing impairments, whether social, medical, emergency, business, etc. Provides educational workshops to explain role of "professional interpreter" and concerns or issues related to hearing loss.We accept requests through phone, fax, email or mail. Please give as much notice as possible to allow STIC to get the most qualified interpreter available within the area. We highly suggest that you request an interpreter at least 10 days in advance. At times last minute requests and emergencies can be accommodated but due to the high volume of requests there is no guarantee.
