Develops and offers professional development (training, coaching, and technical assistance) consistent with the New York State Core Body of Knowledge Core Competencies for all modalities of child care (Family, Group Family, Center and School Age). Council offers the New York State Office of Children & Family Services (NYS OCFS) mandated 15 hour Foundations in Health & Safety Training required for registration of licensing of new Family/Group Family providers; recruitment and business practices workshops; technical assistance for potential and new providers of all modalities, Medication Administration Training (MAT) required for those that administer medication to children in their program and The Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential for early childhood education professionals.New York State Training and Technical Assistance Professional Credentialed specialists are available with expertise in infants and toddlers, preschool and elementary/middle school development, care and education. Council staff provide interactive in-person professional development at Council as well as at your location (through fee for service) as requested by programs and community agencies. Topics for training, coaching, and/or technical assistance include but are not limited tio all NYS OCFS required topics for the 30 hours of mandated training; child growth and development; responding to challenging behaviors; family and community relationships; culturally responsive practice; observation and assessment; environment and curriculum; health. safety and nutrition; coping with tragedy, trauma and disasters; professionalism and leadership; administration and management; NYS OCFS regulations; national accreditation self-studies; and professional development planning. Bilingual (English/Spanish) services are available.

Provides resources to assist parents with their child care needs, individuals with concerns regarding the health or safety of a child in a day care program and individuals involved in running or initiating a day care program. Oversees Licenses and Monitors Daycare and Home based Daycare Facilities. Offers online information including a Child Care Facility Search feature which provides a listing of regulated child care providers in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. There is also an online screening tool to help parents determine their eligibility for financial support from the state's Child Care Assistance Program for low or no-cost child care.

Child care is provided not only to those on Temporary Assistance, but also to those working families who meet income guidelines for subsidies. Provides free child care resources and referrals to parents or guardians who need child care, an overview of available options, consumer education, information on financial assistance, and resource development and recruitment. Parent Services works with numerous community based organizations agencies, service providers, school districts, institutions of higher learning and the private sector to identify, collaborate, advocate and secure needed services for parents/caregivers. The department maintains a comprehensive NACCRRAware provider database for child care resource and referrals. Parent Services Department's Director is also oversees and coordinates the Legally Exempt Enrollment Program, which is responsible for all legally exempt enrollments.Families in need of child care can access Council's services for free by telephone, through the internet at Council's website, email, mail and fax or in person for child care options that best meet the family needs. Low income parents are given information about eligibility for child care subsidy through the Nassau County Department of Social Services (NC DSS) as well as information from the continously updated child care provider database regarding sliding scales, scholarships and multi-child discounts at various child care facilities. Each parent that calls the Council is offered information on Early Intervention services and/or the Early Childhood Direction Center for children with special needs, current financial information including Earned Income Tax Credits, Child & Dependent Care Credits, and Child Health Plus as well as referrals to assist them re:many other issues concerning the family (ex. legal, domestic violence, mental health, child abuse, etc.).Staff presents "Finding Child Care" workshops and/or sets up informational tables (where a parent counselor ins available to do on-site intakes) at various community fairs, libraries, meetings, conferences and community events. The Council collaborates and works with other child care organizations and community groups, schools, etc. to educate about and support high-quality child care.Child Care Council of Nassau outreaches to families via numerous organizations and agencies in the community through a variety of venues, including those that serve the Hispanic population (agency events, community fairs, libraries, churches, etc.). Families learn of various workshops, seminars, and webinars related to parenting in the community through email alerts from Council.Council actively participates with other child care and early education agencies in statewide efforts to create a cohesive and comprehensive agenda in Nassau County and Albany, and for clarification, support, and dissemination of statewide information.

Assists area residents in developing asset based thinking by providing financial literacy training, basic budgeting, and home appliance loans to combat predatory lenders. Loan programs and Cottage Industry Assistance Program target low to moderate income existing and prospective individuals. Chautauqua Microenterprise Loan Fund and the Women and Minority Microenterprise Loan Fund Programs help small businesses by providing small business start up and expansion loans. The small business incubator offers small businesses an opportunity to grow and stabilize with subsidies around rent, business services, and technical assistance. Serves as a Warming Center during times of excessive cold and as a Cooling Center during times of excessive heat. Always call ahead to make sure a Warming/Cooling Center is open before going there.
