Families receive support for stress related issues, such as case management, daycare services, homemaker services, parenting aides, transportation, recreational services, and more.

A Family Assessment Response helps ensure that children are safe, while at the same time setting aside the issue of fault and negative labels for parent and caretakers.
Offers Concrete services (i.e.: day care, homemaking, budgeting, advocacy, etc.), casework counseling, and referral services are provided to eligible families in order to avert placements of children outside their homes, enhance family functioning and/or expedite reunification of children in care with their biological families. Eligible families include those at some risk of foster care and pregnant and/or parenting adolescents. Referrals to preventive services can be made by calling 516-227-7789. Also offered is PINS Diversion Program - Services are provided through contract agencies, to families in crisis whose children might be experiencing truancy, gang involvement, running away from home, and substance abuse issues or other unmanageable behaviors in order to prevent/avert the filing of a Pins Petition and placement out of the home. An engaging, alternative approach to providing protection for children by focusing on engaging families in informal and formal support services to meet needs and increase the family's ability to care for their children. Program addresses situations in which families are reported to child protection services for issues such as educational neglect, where the child's safety is not at risk. Provides strength-based in-home services tailored to the family's needs to address the identified problem. Supports the role of families in determining what services will benefit their children. Families work with FAR for approximately 30-90 days.
Aims to prevent and/or reduce the length of stay of youth in psychiatric and residential care. Assists families in identifying and strengthening the protective factors known to be associated with resiliency in their children. Helps to identify and decrease those factors that impede resiliency. Increases a family's skills in order to reduce acute service utilization. Increase a family's ability to access appropriate community resources.
Offers preventive services to avoid child placement in foster care, future child abuse, and the need for child protective services intervention. Provides services for families to achieve reunification when their children have been removed to foster care or other out of home placement. Also included are home-finding and adoption services.

The Intensive in Home Family Preservation Program is designed to provide immediate crisis intervention and stabilization to families with child (ren) at imminent risk of placement into foster care. Provides in-home instructional services to families who children are at risk for foster care placement or as part of family reunification planning. Focus is on parenting skills, home and money management, conflict resolution, behavior management and negotiating the social service system.

Astor works with families who are at risk of having a child with an out-of-home placement. The program helps the family through supportive and advocacy services, create a structured family plan, and link to other needed services.
Designed to keep families together through active and early intervention. Operates two Preventive Services Programs: The Family Treatment and Rehabilitation Program and Special Medical Program. These programs are intended to serve families with either a child with special medical needs, a child and/or parent with a developmental disability, or a child in need of early or future permanency planning due to a parent’s substance abuse, mental illness or terminal illness.

Preventive services are supportive and rehabilitative services provided to children and their families to avert disruption of a family which could result in an out of home placement for the child, to enable a child who has been placed in foster care to be reunited with his or her family at an earlier time than would otherwise be possible, or to reduce the likelihood that a child discharged from foster care will return to such care.
Intensive case management program for substance abusing families who are at risk for recurrent child abuse and/or foster care placement. Each intensive case manager works with 8-10 families at a time for 6-9 months and provides 24 hour accessibility, frequent home visits, comprehensive assessments, development of a service plan for all family members and linkages of service needs with appropriate service delivery.
Provides supervision as well as services to youth adjudicated by Family Court and their families.
