Provides a wide variety of services essential to the health and well-being of all Genesee County Residents. Service areas include public water supply protection, community sanitation and food protection, private water and sewage disposal systems, realty subdivision plan review, public health nuisances, residential lead investigations, chemical emergencies, rabies investigations, and enforcement of both the Adolescent Tobacco Use and Prevention Act (ATUPA) and the NYS Clean Indoor Air Act (CIAA). The Environmental Health division also operates multiple anti-rabies immunization clinics annually to administer vaccines to domestic animals, including cats, dogs, and ferrets, in order to reduce the spread of the potentially life threatening disease.

Responsible for septic systems, inspections and permit issuance, drinking water testing, public health hazards and nuisances, clean indoor air enforcement, onsite wastewater treatment system regulation, rabies investigations and vaccinations, insect control, West Nile Virus surveillance. Rabies vaccinations: Conducts free rabies vaccination clinics for dogs, cats and domesticated ferrets in several locations across Cattaraugus County. All Cattaraugus County residents are eligible for these free vaccinations. Notices will be posted on the Cattaraugus County website, through radio, newspaper ads, fliers on community boards around the County. Pre- and post-exposure vaccine available along with follow-up and guidance. Provides clinics for vaccination against rabies for dogs, cats, and ferrets held quarterly. Also provides information and education on rabies prevention.
DBCH offers information and public awareness of rabies. Also provides the preventive vaccines for domestic pets, and post exposure vaccines to people. If anyone suspects an animal is rabid, contact the Department of Health or the local police department immediately.

Investigates animal and/or bat exposure and potential incidents and sends samples to the state laboratory for rabies confirmation. Staff assists individuals with treatment referrals. Provides a free rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats or ferrets each spring.
Provides information about Rabies and how to prevent an infection in both animals and people. Also offers rabies vaccination clinics in various locations throughout the county.
Conducts spay/neuter clinics, provides educational programs, and supports senior citizens with the maintenance of their pets. In addition, the agency provides spay/neuter services to tens of thousands of feral animals, while assisting the residents of Suffolk County by providing for the health and safety of their pets. Our peace officers are both active and retired law enforcement personnel who enforce the New York State Agriculture and Market Law with regard to the prevention of mistreatment and cruelty to animals. The Suffolk County SPCA directly supports the efforts of the various Federal, State and Municipal K-9 rescue services in the five state area. Call for detailed information on services offered.

Provides free rabies vaccinations for cats, dogs, and ferrets that come with certificates that are good for one year.

2023 Dates Include:
March 28th, May 23rd, June 27th, August 22nd, and September 5th.

  • Dogs 6:30-7:30 PM Must be on a leash
Times differ for each animal to ensure safety for pet owners and their pets.
Offers free rabies vaccination clinics for pet owners of dogs, ferrets, and cats. Owners are required to keep pets on a leash or in a carrier and bring their pet's past rabies shot records.

NYS Public Health Law requires that all puppies and kittens get their first rabies shot at 3 months of age. They also need to get a booster shot at one year old, and again every three years.
This program is designed to help those who have fallen on hard times or need assistance caring for their pets. To be considered for these services, you will be asked to prove your qualification status.

Rabies Immunization Clinics sponsored by CCDOH for pet dogs, cats and ferrets are for individual or family pet owners. The annual schedule of clinics includes several locations in the county, including town halls, as well as on the agency website. There is no charge for vaccination services for county residents, although donations are accepted. Breeders must use their own veterinarian for rabies vaccinations and are not eligible for vaccinations through the free clinics. Dogs must be leashed and cats and ferrets must be enclosed in an appropriate pet carrier.
