Provides shelter/transitional home, support and care for stray, mistreated, abused and abandoned animals, and assists anyone looking for pets to adopt. Also has a foster care program for individuals to care for a pet, temporarily, from two weeks to two months.Service is provided in 19 communities in Westchester County including Ardsley, City of Rye, Dobbs Ferry, Eastchester, Elmsford, Greenburgh, Harrison, Hartsdale, Hastings-on-Hudson, Irvington, Larchmont, New Rochelle, Pelham, Pelham Manor, Rye Brook, Scarsdale, Tarrytown, Town of Mamaroneck and Village of Mamaroneck.

The Animal Control Unit is responsible for responding to complaints in which dogs are: unlicensed, off a leash, treated poorly, biting, and/or fighting. They assist patrol units when they encounter possible rabid animals.

Picks up lost and stray dogs seven days a week as well as sick and injured stray cats.

Houses stray dogs and cats while attempting to find adoptive homes for them. Investigates complaints of dangerous animals. Offers low cost spaying and rabies program.

Dog control officer will bring stray animals to the SPCA in Mattydale. If the dog is not licensed, the owner must see the town clerk to license the dog and then bring that proof to the SPCA in Mattydale before they will release the dog to the owner.

Government and services

Pick up and impound or return to their owners if known, domestic dogs who have strayed from their homes. Also includes, enforce laws and complaints regarding dogs who have bitten someone or are otherwise making nuisances of themselves. Most animal control programs are unable to handle nuisance wildlife.
