Provides outreach, assistance, and facilitated enrollment, including in-home assistance, for individuals and families who may qualify for Food Stamps. Can assist with recertification.

Determines eligibility for and administers financial assistance in the form of Medicaid, Food Stamps/SNAP, Public Assistance, Emergency Assistance, and assistance with burials; see separate listing for HEAP. Provides Welfare Fraud Hotline and places great emphasis on identifying fraudulent applications both prior to and during case opening. Also assigns activities to clients that will assist them in locating employment to end or decrease their need for assistance.

Provides community outreach and SNAP Free Prescreening, Recertifications, and New Applications.

Offers an emergency food pantry which provides pre-packed bags of food based on family size. A client can visit the food pantry once per month, and should bring reusable bags or a cart to transport their food. All other food service is being provided through Emergency Canteen (see separate listing on Homeless Outreach Program). Also provides intensive case management services for families, assistance with SNAP applications and re-certification, and screening and referrals for other programs of Salvation Army. ##REENTRY##

Operates and oversees a takeout ready to eat community kitchen and provides an emergency food pantry and mobile food pantry. Other services include food recovery, food redistribution, community gardens, and seedling provision.

Administers Temporary Assistance including Family Assistance, Safety Net Assistance, SNAP, Low Income Household Water Assistance Program, and childcare assistance. An application for Temporary Assistance is an automatic application for Medical Assistance and SNAP benefits. May be able to assist with rent and mortgage payments, depending on the circumstances. Provides once-only or alternative assistance to applicants, who are low-income and without sufficient resources, in the form of diversion services. May include transportation and work related expense assistance. Also provides for burial when a Temporary Assistance recipient or other indigent person dies leaving no funds or insurance sufficient to pay the cost and there are no relatives, friends or other persons liable or willing to take responsibility for the burial expense. Family Assistance: Provides temporary financial support to families with children and pregnant women who are without sufficient income to maintain themselves. Safety Net: Provides vouchers for essential expenses to persons who have reached their lifetime limit of Family Assistance, to persons caring for children of non-relatives, and to single and childless couples. Temporary Disability Assistance (TDA): Provides assistance to persons with temporary disabilities, persons 60 years of age and older, caregivers of those with disabilities, and those with permanent disabilities awaiting SSI benefits. SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program): Provides assistance purchasing food for individuals and families with limited income. Mixed Household SNAP benefits are granted to households who have some members receiving temporary assistance and some who do not. Benefits are obtained electronically through the EBT system. Medical Assistance: Provides medical coverage to persons without insurance, premium support to persons paying a Medicare premium, and coverage for adults whose children receive Child Health Plus. Rental Assistance: Provides assistance with rental payments to eligible households, as determined by the application process.

Accept Food Stamp applications, determine eligibility for the Food Stamp program and allotments, and issue Food Stamp EBT cards. This EBT card enables low-income and indigent households to purchase nutritious foods. Amount of food stamps issued varies with family size and income.

Direct individuals, families to local pantry services where anyone who needs it can get food assistance. Assists with the enrollment in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Provides screening for benefits programs including Food Stamps/SNAP, HEAP, Medicare Savings Programs, and Medicaid. As appropriate, provides referrals to agencies such as the Social Security Administration, Department of Social Services, and Veterans Service Agency.

Help individuals with the food stamp (SNAP) application process and eligibility qualifications. Most help can be done over the phone and help is available in both Spanish and English.

Provides free confidential screenings, application assistance and mediation for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Promotes participation in federal nutrition programs, especially the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Summer Food Service Program, through outreach and training. Program staff will prescreen individuals for potential SNAP and assist with the application process. Staff provides professional training sessions for human service workers on food assistance programs and will assist interested organizations in serving/sponsoring a summer food service site.

Provides education and enrollment assistance related to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). SNAP provides nutrition assistance to eligible low-income individuals and families and provides economic benefits to communities. Services include a confidential prescreening, assistance in completing the SNAP application, explanation of benefits and resolving application issues.

NOEP Services provide assistance with completing the Food Stamp application and in facilitating the process.

Provides the opportunity for a state resident to dispute a decision made about their benefit-related case by the local social services department.

Helps persons with limited income buy food.

Program assists those ages 60+ with benefits such as Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Food Stamps (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), Home energy Assistance programs (HEAP), Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage (EPIC), Senior Citizen real property tax exemptions (STAR), and PSEG Critical Care program.

Offers a community based Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention program focused on healthy lifestyles. This program is offered for free in English and Spanish for all ages. ESNY utilizes a variety of hands-on educational strategies to bring about wellness behavioral changes within the community. All of our programs are interactive, focusing on creating healthy eating and physical activity habits. We also work with agencies to create healthy environments that focus on policy and systems change. Our educators provide programs throughout the community in food pantries, schools partner agencies, farmer's markets, laundromats, corner stores, libraries work sites, etc. Our 4 main areas of focus are "increase consumption of fruits and vegetables, increase physical activity, decrease consumption of sugary beverages, and learn how to budget, plan and save. We welcome agencies to contact us for our comprehensive programs that impact their staff and participants.
