Social Services promotes self-sufficiency by providing financial and social services to eligible County residents.Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDs) are SNAP recipients aged 18-64 who are able to work and don't have a dependent child in their household. They can only receive SNAP benefits for a limited time (3 months in a 36-month period) unless they meet certain work requirements or have an exemption. These work requirements generally involve working or participating in a work program for at least 20 hours per week (80 hours per month). Helpline representatives assist callers with a range of issues regarding access to substance use disorder and mental healthcare issues, including helping ensure fair reimbursement of mental healthcare and substance use disorder services and fighting insurance denials of care.

Assists in applying for New York State sponsored health insurance through Medicaid, as well as Managed Long Term Care (MLTC) and Nursing Home Coverage. Facilitated enrollers help go over paperwork and put together all of the information needed to apply. Helps apply for Medicaid as a supplement to existing coverage such as commercial insurance, Medicare, or VA Healthcare. If eligible, Medicaid can pay for remaining costs that insurance doesn't cover including co-pays, dental, and prescriptions.

Peers (in sustained recovery themselves and/or having loved ones with a substance use disorder) share their recovery experience and help those with substance use disorders navigate the many avenues to take by offering information, advocacy, and Peer Counseling to help them reach their first steps on the path to recovery. The team is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and will respond to a call at 716-498-4333 within 24 hours.

Family Assistance: Provides temporary financial support to families with children and pregnant women who are without sufficient income to maintain themselves.
Safety Net: Provides vouchers for essential expenses to persons who have reached their lifetime limit of Family Assistance, to persons caring for children of non-relatives, and to single and childless couples.
Temporary Disability Assistance (TDA): Provides assistance to persons with temporary disabilities, persons 60 years of age and older, caregivers of those with disabilities, and those with permanent disabilities awaiting SSI benefits.
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program): Provides assistance purchasing food for individuals and families with limited income. Mixed Household SNAP benefits are granted to households who have some members receiving temporary assistance and some who do not. Benefits are obtained electronically through the EBT system.
