Helps low-income persons ages 55 and transition to unsubsidized employment through part-time employment training opportunities.Participants work an average of 20 hours a week in public or not-for-profit agencies and receive job counseling, information and referral, legal assistance and services from the Area Agency on Aging and Office of Employment and Training.

Provides weekly programs at the Batavia Senior Center. Some of the programs offered are bridge, line dancing, cribbage, arthritis chair-based exercise, quilters, and painting classes. New groups are always being organized. Special programs such as 55 Alive Driver Refresher Course, educational, health, and informational programs are also offered. Day trips to concerts, exhibits, musical productions, restaurants, and areas of special interest are also scheduled in the spring, summer, and fall. Senior groups and clubs exist in most areas of the county which offer luncheons and pot luck dinners. Most groups offer programs of interest, entertainment, day trips, and other recreational activities.

Participants work an average of 20+ hours a week at minimum wage in a wide variety of community service activities at non-profit and public facilities including day-care centers, senior centers, schools, and hospitals. This community service training serves as a bridge to regular employment opportunities.

Associates for Training and Development (A4TD) administers the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) in Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Erie, and Wyoming Counties. A4TD helps mature people get back into the workforce by providing paid occupational skills and workplace experience training. Designed specifically for income-qualified workers age 55 and above, the purpose of the SCSEP is to provide training and skill-building opportunities to program participants while providing much needed community service to local non-profits and public agencies. Some examples of training sites include: hospitals, libraries, senior centers, schools, town clerks, museums, and more. These agencies provide internship opportunities where program participants learn updated job skills. In addition to on-site training, each participant receives career assessments, technology skills updates, supportive services referrals, and career counseling.
