Matches workers with local employment opportunities that offer part-time on-the-job training positions to qualified individuals who are looking for flexible hours, opportunities to gain new job skills, personal and professional growth, chances to work with others, or training in a supportive environment.

Offers training to enable individuals to enter or re-enter the workforce. The senior workers complete 20 weekly training hours of paid community service with non-profit and public agencies while continuing to actively seek permanent employment. They are provided opportunities for learning new skills and/or enhancing skills already in place.

Provides list of older adult job seekers 55+ yrs to people seeking personal care, companions, assistance with chores, handyman and homemaking assistance. Long-term, short-term or one-time jobs. Senior helpers are paid by the people requesting the jobs. People interested in hiring are encouraged to screen senior helpers.

Helps low-income persons ages 55 and transition to unsubsidized employment through part-time employment training opportunities.Participants work an average of 20 hours a week in public or not-for-profit agencies and receive job counseling, information and referral, legal assistance and services from the Area Agency on Aging and Office of Employment and Training.

Offers paid work experience at local sites that provides training for individuals over 55 years of age.

Offers labor market information regarding unemployment insurance including the process of filing claims, answers to inquiries regarding existing claims, information regarding job training programs, including those funded by the WIA (Workforce Investment Act), the Older Americans Act, the Senior Community Employment Opportunity Program, the Perkins Act, and the Federal Unemployment Tax Act. Provides information regarding programs for education and training, and referrals to local resources. Provides job search assistance, use of Resource Room which includes personal computers, job banks, resume software, a photocopier, fax machine, telephone bank, workstations, instructional videos, and a listing of employer job orders in the job bank. Provides opportunities for seniors with a limited income to earn money by participating in support services in programs and residential sites for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Provides weekly programs at the Batavia Senior Center. Some of the programs offered are bridge, line dancing, cribbage, arthritis chair-based exercise, quilters, and painting classes. New groups are always being organized. Special programs such as 55 Alive Driver Refresher Course, educational, health, and informational programs are also offered. Day trips to concerts, exhibits, musical productions, restaurants, and areas of special interest are also scheduled in the spring, summer, and fall. Senior groups and clubs exist in most areas of the county which offer luncheons and pot luck dinners. Most groups offer programs of interest, entertainment, day trips, and other recreational activities.

Provides both community services and work-based training. Participants work an average of 20+ hours a week at minimum wage in a wide variety of community service activities at non-profit and public facilities including day-care centers, senior centers, schools, and hospitals. This community service training serves as a bridge to regular employment opportunities.

Sells gently-used clothing, household items, and furniture at value prices to support the workforce development programs that help people find jobs and build careers. Donations gratefully accepted.

Assess seniors, ages 55 and older, with job placement and on-the-job training. This service tailors job readiness for each senior, including problem solving and stress management. This service also provides a paid stipend while participating.

Associates for Training and Development (A4TD) administers the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) in Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Erie, and Wyoming Counties. A4TD helps mature people get back into the workforce by providing paid occupational skills and workplace experience training. Designed specifically for income-qualified workers age 55 and above, the purpose of the SCSEP is to provide training and skill-building opportunities to program participants while providing much needed community service to local non-profits and public agencies. Some examples of training sites include: hospitals, libraries, senior centers, schools, town clerks, museums, and more. These agencies provide internship opportunities where program participants learn updated job skills. In addition to on-site training, each participant receives career assessments, technology skills updates, supportive services referrals, and career counseling.
