Assists in the identification of students in need of augmentative communication intervention services. They will conduct comprehensive augmentative communication evaluations on students presenting with severe communication impairments, provide consultation/support services for all staff working with students who utilize augmentative communication aids, techniques and strategies and conduct individual and/or small group trainings related to the use of specific augmentative communication aids, technique and strategies. The Assistive program evaluates a student's ability to access the curriculum depending on his/her disability. Evaluators collaborate with the educational team to identify software programs and/or adaptive equipment to enable the student to access the curriculum as independently as possible. They will provide training/consultations to students, staff and family in the use and implementations of the recommended adaptive equipment and/or software. Evaluations include full Augmentative Alternative Communication Evaluations to secure speech generating devices. We serve adult participants though our Article 16 Clinic. Speech-language services are designed to optimize an individuals, ability to communicate and swallow, theropy improving quality of life. SLPs develop and implement treatment to address the presenting symptoms or concerns of a communication problem or related functional issue, Our most common targets are receptive language, expressive language (verbal, SGD, PECS or sign) and pragmatic language skills. Ladge Speech and Hearing Center at LIU Post has the dual mission of assisting those with communication and related disorders by offering a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for infants, children and adults (individually or in groups) and training graduate students in communication sciences and disorders. All services are provided by supervisors with years of experience and graduate clinicians, both working together to provide quality care that family members can observe. Preschool program operates five developmentally appropriate preschool classrooms in Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, Fort Covington and Malone. We serve Children from ages 3-5, providing special education and speech, physical, occupational and play therapies to those who show a need for such services.

Provides comprehensive educational services for 3 to 5 year-old students with multiple physical and developmental disabilities. The educational curriculum and therapeutic design of the program focuses on skill development through traditional teaching methods while engaging the most up to date technologies available. Classroom activities stress academic and readiness skills, social and play skills. Experiential learning through exploration, manipulation, imitation, and socialization are keys to successful skill acquisition. A cross-disciplinary approach allows for classroom activities that develop the skills necessary for day-to-day life. Communication skills are reinforced throughout the school day in an engineered aided language environment, which uses visual strategies and state of the art assistive technology enabling students to make their needs known in each communication environment (e.g., therapy room, classroom, gym). Parents are encouraged to be active participants in their child’s education.
