Housing placement is based on age and level of functioning. Family outings day and home visits are encouraged.

Serves youngsters ages 5-18 who are diagnosed as having a severe emotional disorder and who need extensive psychiatric support. Diagnostic categories include, but are not limited to: attention deficit, anxiety, schizophrenia, paranoia and affective autism spectrum disorders. Services include 6:1:1 or 8:1:1 placement with appropriate support staff at the Sayville Academic Center and 8:1:1 placement with appropriate support staff at the Sequoya High School and Jefferson Academic Center. Psychiatric, rehabilitation, social work, and psychological services are offered. Students who no longer need intense psychiatric support can remain at their respective centers and receive counseling from Eastern Suffolk BOCES staff.

Early Intervention for Mental Illness
Provides assessments for children and adults diagnosedd with autism, and designs a treatment plan.
We offer IEP-based speech and language services including evaluations, individual and group therapy and consultation with treatment team members and family. Evaluations include full Augmentative Alternative Communication Evaluations to secure speech generating devices. We serve adult participants though our Article 16 Clinic. Speech-language services are designed to optimize an individuals, ability to communicate and swallow, theropy improving quality of life. SLPs develop and implement treatment to address the presenting symptoms or concerns of a communication problem or related functional issue, Our most common targets are receptive language, expressive language (verbal, SGD, PECS or sign) and pragmatic language skills. The ultimate goal of therapy is to improve and individual's functional outcomes. All services are provided NYS licensed speech-language pathologists who hold certification by the American Speech-Language hearing association.

Offers programs to students ages 5-11 in grades K-6. Elementary Level Developmental Programs includes: the Developmental Program which services students with various developmental disabilities. The primary goal of the program is to maximize each student's potential and to teach skills that will enable them to become as independent as possible within the confines of his/her disability. Program components include improving cognition with an emphasis on sensory motor skills development. Functional assessments of behavior and behavior intervention plans are put in place for support when needed. Students are classified as: Multiple Disabilities; Autism; Intellectual Disability and other Health Impariment. The Academic Program services students with learning and behavioral disabilities. The primary goal of the program is to maximize each student's potential. Program components include instruction that is comprised of the general education curriculum and which supports the Common Core State Standards. Behavior management, self advocacy and social skills are addressed. A building-wide behavior management plan is an integral part of the program. Functional behavior assessments (FBA's) and behavior intervention plans (BIP's) are implemented for support when needed. The 12:1:4 Program emphasizes a multi-sensory approach to learning. Emphasis is placed on improving cognition, sensory motor skills development and use of adaptive equipment to aid movement and independence. Students placed in the 12:1:4 class component are dependent upon staff for meeting their needs throughout the school day. Classroom instruction is provided with hand over hand assistance. Related services of speech, occupational therapy and physical therapy are provided on a group push-in basis. All students are assessed using the New York State Alternate Assessment. The Autism Program services students with various development disabilities. The primary goal of the program is to maximize each student's potential and to teach skills that will enable them to become as independent as possible within the confines of his/her disability. Program components include academics with an emphasis on functional skill development. Behavior management, independent living, and social skills are also addressed. Where needed, discrete trial instruction and applied behavioral analysis are utilized in conjunction with grade level curriculum. Functional assessments of behavior and behavior intervention plans are implemented for support when needed. This program is offered at various locations.

* Provides in home Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for individuals with Autism funded by commercial insurance and Medicaid. The behavior analytic programs are over seen by a licensed board certified behavior analysts that also supervise 1:1 behavior technicians to ensure progress is being made in areas like communication, social skills, adaptive behavior and maladaptive behavior. RCASD Old Westbury provides evidence-based training and support to families and professionals, and through ongoing research, contributes knowledge to the field of autism spectrum disorders. RCASD Old Westbury provides high quality autism spectrum resources to individuals and families affected by autism, and to school personnel and community providers. RCASD functions with an overarching goal of identifying, disseminating, and assisting in the implementation of practices to build capacity to improve services and outcomes for children and youth with autism spectrum disorders. As a member of partnership of six university-affiliated programs across New York State, the RCASD at Old Westbury is part of a regional model approach demonstrated to be a successful paradigm around the nation for providing services and resources to families and professionals across the state that may not had access to cost-effective services in the past.
