The âItâs About Youâ campaign focuses on improving Infant and maternal health outcomes through a life course perspective, reaching preconception (before initial pregnancy), prenatal/postpartum, and interconception (between pregnancies) clients. It strives to empower women and men to take control of their health, through the dissemination of health education materials, connection to supportive services within their communities, and advocacy. Community Health Workers, home-visiting, risk assessment, client-centered service plans, referrals, preventative screening and health coordination are all components by which this is accomplished.

Prepared childbirth, breastfeeding, newborn care classes

Offers classes for parents expecting their first child or those who have never attended childbirth classes before. The six weekly sessions are taught by registered nurses certified by the Council of Childbirth Education specialists. Topics reviewed include: signs of labor, labor process, possible medications, anesthesia, newborn care, breathing and relaxation techniques, bottle/breastfeeding, and post-partum care. A tour of the maternity area and films on labor and delivery are also included. Classes run throughout the entire year.

Offers a refresher Lamaze class for mothers and their coaches. Reinforces breathing, relaxation and labor support techniques previously learned. Suggests methods for easing sibling rivalry and assists couples in making positive changes to their labor experience. Offers one3.5 hour class.

SLC provides a birthing center that focuses on all aspects of pregnancy, from testing, option counseling, labor and delivery, high-risk, infertility, prenatal and post partum care.

Provides childbirth preparation education in small groups. Comfort measures for labor and birth includes coaching , relaxation, and breathing techniques. Anatomy and physiology, cesarean preparation, pain medications, hospital procedures and body mechanics are also included in the curriculum.

Provides prenatal, perinatal, postpartum care for women who need home care before and/or after the baby is born. Pediatric assessment, education and treatment for the family is also available, if needed. Also provides teen pregnancy prevention classes.

Childbirth classes: Offered for three consecutive weeks or a full day class on Saturdays on the Lamaze technique.Breastfeeding: Offers tips on how to prevent common problems and positioning techniques.

Offers a childbirth course foe expectant couples. Topics covered include stages of labor, routines and procedures, Lamaze breathing and relaxation techniques, the coach's role during labor, pain management options, and mother and infant care after delivery. Includes tour of the maternity department. Offers five weekday evening classes or one eight hour weekend superclass.

Virtual, interactive two-day course to learn about the birthing process, comfort measures, partner coaching techniques and hospital experience. This class is taught by a Certified Childbirth Educator and includes a full-color companion book (LCCE).

Healthy Kids is a joint endeavor between Samaritan Hospital and Rensselaer County Department of Social Services This is a unique home visitation program. The program is voluntary and free to participants. Family support workers provide a range of services, including childbirth education, infant care and child development, family planning options, assistance with obtaining transportation, meal planning, and referral to community agencies.
