The New York State Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) provides breastfeeding support, nutrition counseling, health education, health care referrals, referrals to other services, and nutritious foods.

Prepared childbirth, breastfeeding, newborn care classes

Provides medical and support services to pregnant women and parents, both before and after pregnancy.

Prepares parents for the first few days and weeks of breastfeeding. Topics include the benefits of breastfeeding, positioning, establishing a good milk supply, common problems, and returning to work.

Offers expectant mothers and fathers information on pregnancy, stages in childbirth, labor and delivery and infant care. Offers a series of (3) Lectures one every other month on Tuesday evenings. Virtual, interactive two-day course to learn about the birthing process, comfort measures, partner coaching techniques and hospital experience. This class is taught by a Certified Childbirth Educator and includes a full-color companion book (LCCE).

Programs are offered for Prenatal (during pregnancy) moms, Pregnancy & COVID-19; Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders; Breastfeeding Support; WIC; Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program; Safe Sleep; Cribs for Kids and more. Provides information and support to women during and after pregnancy. Services during pregnancy include prenatal education which focus on fetal growth, stages of labor, breastfeeding, etc. After birth services offered are postpartum home visits, weight and length check, breastfeeding help, referrals for other specialized needs, nutritional consults and dental care, and much more. Support services are available by telephone or a home visit.

Offers early pregnancy class, lamaze, sibling class, parenting class, breastfeeding, etc. Classes help guide new parents in dealing with pediatric emergencies, childbirth, and much more.

Provides services to help at every stage of pregnancy. Also offers various outreach programs for expectant parents, and health professionals to educate on the importance of prenatal health and care.

Serves to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk by providing breastfeeding support, information on healthy eating, nutritious foods to supplement diets, and referrals to health care. Programs include: Early Intervention – a voluntary developmental evaluation and services program offered by New York State and administered locally by the Nassau County Department of Health Office for Children with Special Needs; Preschool Special Education - provides services to children who are 3 to 5 years old with developmental delays and/or educational needs; WIC - Special Supplemental Foods Program for Women, Infants and Children. WIC provides nutritious foods as well as nutrition counseling and education for its participants; Lead Poisoning & Prevention – Offers information to prevent lead poisoning in children; Cribs for Kids - providing a safe-sleep education program for parents and caregivers which includes the intervention of a safety-approved crib if the family cannot otherwise afford one; Healthy Moms & Babies - Resource center to promote the well-being of childbearing women, infants, their families and communities.; Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) –provides referrals and information about resources in your community that help benefit children with special health care needs and their families; Child Fatality Review Team - review child deaths to better understand the causes of these deaths and to make recommendations based on the team's findings in order to reduce future child fatalities; and the 4th Trimester – resources to help moms with taking care of themselves with Post-Partum Depression, breast feeding and more.
