A thorough medical history assessment, combined with an itinerary analysis is done to determine the recommended and required vaccinations along with other preventive measures based on destination and length of stay. The Infectious Disease experts in the Travel Medicine Service at NUMC utilize the most up-to-date travel disease databases to administer required and recommended vaccinations, provide an International Certificate of Vaccination, and provide necessary prescriptions for preventive medications. The complete range of vaccinations available to meet international travel requirements or recommendations includes yellow fever, hepatitis, typhoid, polio, meningitis, rabies, varicella, and Japanese encephalitis, as well as prescriptions for malaria prevention and treatment of travelers’ diarrhea. Hotline for scheduling vaccination appointments for eligible New Yorkers, which at this time (as of January 11th, 2021) includes New Yorkers in Phases 1a and 1b. New Yorkers who are part of Phase 1a and Phase 1b who may NOT need to schedule vaccine appointments through the hotline include health care workers and public employees. Health care workers who are part of Phase 1a will continue to be vaccinated at hospitals and other clinical settings. Public employees (for example, police departments, public school teachers and MTA employees) will primarily be vaccinated through their groups' relevant health programs or as organized by their unions.
