Facilitates access to assistive technology for children and adults with disabilities in Westchester, Putnam, and Rockland Counties to help them be more independent and participate more fully in the community.

Provides assistive technology evaluations and training for individuals, training and education for professionals, demonstrations and an on-site library. Serves people with disabilities of all ages and all ranges of disabilities with special education related services and vocation-related professionals. Serves Nassau and Suffolk Counties and the statewide area.

Offers a variety of assistive technology services to children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities, including adaptive equipment that can help increase an individual with independence in many areas of life. The center offers a following:Lending Library - Adapted toys, switches, computer hardware, software, daily living aids and communication devices.Computer Lab - Fully adaptable computer stations are available for achieving educational and vocational goals.Assessment and Training - Skills are evaluated so that suitable assistive equipment can be found.

Operates as a device demonstration and training facility, allowing individuals the opportunity to “test drive” assistive technology prior to purchase or to borrow pieces while theirs are out for repair. Loans up to three pieces of adaptive technology for two months at a time.

To protect and advance the rights of adults and children who have disabilities so that they can freely exercise their own life choices, enforce their rights, and fully participate in their community life.

Provides free loans of assistive technology. Assistive technology is any device that can be used to improve the functional abilities of people with disabilities or short-term injuries. Available items include wheelchairs, walkers, Rollators, canes, crutches, ramps, grab bars, Hoyer lifts, adaptive seating, shower chairs, commodes, wander alarms, weighted items, adaptive utensils, laptops, iPads and deaf and blind/low vision technology. We also have learning aids, toys and games for early intervention, as well as pediatric equipment. Free delivery may be available.

Administers programs and services to enhance employability, maximize independence, and assist in the development of the capacities and strengths of people who are legally blind. Programs include:

Equipment Loan Fund, which allows individuals to borrow up to $4,000 to purchase adaptive equipment.

Children's services for children who are legally blind, including early intervention rehabilitation, working with and empowering parents, arranging services to supplement educational activities, and ensuring a smooth transition to adult services.

Vocational rehabilitation programs for adults and youth ages 14 to 21 years, which provide a number of services, including assessment, information and referral, casework services, job coaching, orientation and mobility training, independent living skills training, and assistive technology assistance.

Independent living services for individuals who are not eligible for vocational rehabilitation services and who are not receiving services through another NYSCB Program. These services are provided based on individual need and may include orientation and mobility services, rehabilitation teaching, low vision services and devices, social casework, and adaptive equipment.

Provides specialized information and referral to persons with physical disabilities who are seeking assistive technology devices to maintain or improve their functional capabilities. Assists in determining eligibility through Medicare, provides referrals for assessments, and will discuss specific devices. Technology-Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities to choose, acquire and use assistive technology appropriate for their needs. Collaborative Project of the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County and United Cerebral Palsy Association of Suffolk County.

Access and instruction on assistive technologies such as low vision reading systems, computer access software, speech recognition and voice controlled systems.

Provides counseling for adults with any type of disability, including connecting them with other with the same disability, where ideas, concerns and life experiences can be shared. Also assists with assistive technology information, what devices might be good to increase or enhance independence.

Advises governor, legislature, and state agencies on issues facing persons with disabilities. Initiates and shapes innovative programs and identifies areas for improvement. Provides technical assistance on barrier-free design, legal rights,assistive technology to local governments, providers, families, and maintains toll-free information and referral service.

Technology includes toys for children with developmental delays. Service is also available to seniors who could benefit from assistive technology to maintain their independence. Medicaid Waiver program will purchase any devices necessary.

Specializes in making customized braces, seat inserts, hand splints and other assistive technology at a lower cost to families. Wheelchair repair also available.
