Provides a statewide service that connects individuals with disabilities searching for an affordable means to acquire needed devices, with people who have devices they wish to sell or donate. TRAID-IN participants advertise, at no cost, through a database containing both wanted and available items.

Provides assistive technology (AT) services including evaluations, training, consultation, and device demonstrations for individuals with disabilities of all ages, families, counselors, therapists, teachers, agencies, and other interested consumers. Training available in assistive computer software, hardware, and AT devices for individuals, schools, and adults. Also offers work site assessments and environmental control assessments. Provides specialized information and referral to persons with physical disabilities who are seeking assistive technology devices to maintain or improve their functional capabilities. Assists in determining eligibility through Medicare, provides referrals for assessments, and will discuss specific devices. Technology-Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities to choose, acquire and use assistive technology appropriate for their needs. Access and instruction on assistive technologies such as low vision reading systems, computer access software, speech recognition and voice controlled systems.

Assists in the identification of students in need of augmentative communication intervention services. They will conduct comprehensive augmentative communication evaluations on students presenting with severe communication impairments, provide consultation/support services for all staff working with students who utilize augmentative communication aids, techniques and strategies and conduct individual and/or small group trainings related to the use of specific augmentative communication aids, technique and strategies. The Assistive program evaluates a student's ability to access the curriculum depending on his/her disability. Evaluators collaborate with the educational team to identify software programs and/or adaptive equipment to enable the student to access the curriculum as independently as possible. They will provide training/consultations to students, staff and family in the use and implementations of the recommended adaptive equipment and/or software. Also equipment orders are placed for the component school districts upon request.

Comprehensive service to inpatients and outpatients, specializing in custom design, fitting and fabrication of variety of devices, including sports knee and post polio bracing, myoelectric prosthesis, C-Leg and traditional pediatric and adult prosthetic designs.

Offers a variety of assistive technology services to children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities, including adaptive equipment that can help increase an individual with independence in many areas of life. The center offers a following:Lending Library - Adapted toys, switches, computer hardware, software, daily living aids and communication devices.Computer Lab - Fully adaptable computer stations are available for achieving educational and vocational goals.Assessment and Training - Skills are evaluated so that suitable assistive equipment can be found.

Provides access to assistive technology to any New Yorker with a disability through Regional TRAID Centers. Documentation from a treating professional, a Doctor, Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist is required to process the loan to ensure that the device or equipment is safe and suitable for the individual to use. Offers technical assistance and assistive technology services to consumers requiring rehabilitation technology including consultants to other agencies and school districts, on-site computer evaluations/training and referral, equipment modification, product demonstration center, repair/maintenance, funding asistance, public education.

Administers programs and services to enhance employability, maximize independence, and assist in the development of the capacities and strengths of people who are legally blind. Programs include:

Equipment Loan Fund, which allows individuals to borrow up to $4,000 to purchase adaptive equipment.

Children's services for children who are legally blind, including early intervention rehabilitation, working with and empowering parents, arranging services to supplement educational activities, and ensuring a smooth transition to adult services.

Vocational rehabilitation programs for adults and youth ages 14 to 21 years, which provide a number of services, including assessment, information and referral, casework services, job coaching, orientation and mobility training, independent living skills training, and assistive technology assistance.

Independent living services for individuals who are not eligible for vocational rehabilitation services and who are not receiving services through another NYSCB Program. These services are provided based on individual need and may include orientation and mobility services, rehabilitation teaching, low vision services and devices, social casework, and adaptive equipment.

Provides free loans of assistive technology. Assistive technology is any device that can be used to improve the functional abilities of people with disabilities or short-term injuries. Available items include wheelchairs, walkers, Rollators, canes, crutches, ramps, grab bars, Hoyer lifts, adaptive seating, shower chairs, commodes, wander alarms, weighted items, adaptive utensils, laptops, iPads and deaf and blind/low vision technology. We also have learning aids, toys and games for early intervention, as well as pediatric equipment. Free delivery may be available.

SAIL provides loans of assistive technology and durable medical equipment through its TRAID/EI project. TRAID is Technological Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities. TRAID is the busiest department in SAIL on a daily basis. Each day dozens of people come into SAIL in Queensbury or Ballston Spa seeking to borrow medical equipment for someone who has a disabling condition.

Provide equipment, appliances and assistive aids that enable people, including those who have physical or sensory limitations, to increase their mobility and/or ability to communicate and live more comfortably.

Purpose is to increase independence and provide life enrichment. Provides programs in recreation, activities of daily living and independent living skills training. Available assistance/consultation in social work, psychological, and nursing areas. Most participants have significant physical disabilities. Provides transportation and opportunity for community integration.

A Subregional Library of the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. Lends books and magazines that have been professionally recorded onto cassettes to eligible individuals/organizations, along with special playback equipment, catalogs, and related library services. Maintains a Reading Equipment, Aids and Devices (READ) Center which displays adaptive reading equipment, by appointment only. Serves residents of Long Island of all ages who have a visual or physical disability. Offered by public libraries, in person at agency, or postage-free mail.

Specializes in making customized braces, seat inserts, hand splints and other assistive technology at a lower cost to families. Wheelchair repair also available.
