Center for Assistive Technology (CAT) - University at Buffalo

Provides assistive technology (AT) services including evaluations, training, consultation, and device demonstrations for individuals with disabilities of all ages, families, counselors, therapists, teachers, agencies, and other interested consumers. Training available in assistive computer software, hardware, and AT devices for individuals, schools, and adults. Also offers work site assessments and environmental control assessments. Equipment Loan Fund for the Disabled - NYS OCFS

Provides loans to help purchase equipment that assists disabled persons to overcome barriers of daily living. Examples of eligible equipment include wheelchairs, wheelchair van lifts, ramps, communication devices for the deaf and hearing impaired, prosthetic devices, and devices which allow persons who are blind or visually impaired to discern printed material; this list is not all inclusive, and other equipment would be considered. Loans can be issued to equip a vehicle, but cannot be used to purchase any vehicle, accessible or not. Money is loaned either directly to the disabled person or to another person responsible for the individual. Loan amounts can range from $500-$4,000. Repayment period is 2-8 years depending upon the loan amount, at the discretion of the borrower.

NEW YORK STATE COMMISSION FOR THE BLIND | NEW YORK STATE OFFICE OF CHILDREN AND FAMILY SERVICES

Administers programs and services to enhance employability, maximize independence, and assist in the development of the capacities and strengths of people who are legally blind. Programs include:

Equipment Loan Fund, which allows individuals to borrow up to $4,000 to purchase adaptive equipment.

Children's services for children who are legally blind, including early intervention rehabilitation, working with and empowering parents, arranging services to supplement educational activities, and ensuring a smooth transition to adult services.

Vocational rehabilitation programs for adults and youth ages 14 to 21 years, which provide a number of services, including assessment, information and referral, casework services, job coaching, orientation and mobility training, independent living skills training, and assistive technology assistance.

Independent living services for individuals who are not eligible for vocational rehabilitation services and who are not receiving services through another NYSCB Program. These services are provided based on individual need and may include orientation and mobility services, rehabilitation teaching, low vision services and devices, social casework, and adaptive equipment.

LOAN CLOSET/TRAID - STIC | SOUTHERN TIER INDEPENDENCE CENTER

TRAID (Technology Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities) Center shows how technology-from simple homemade gadgets to computer systems-can make people more independent. We have items on display for people to try, we offer demonstrations of equipment, and can tell people how to get what they need. STIC also offers short-term loan of equipment and assistive technology including: wheelchairs, TTYs, walkers, tub seats, commodes, portable ramps, and much more. Some items may be given away if we have an excess.
