Offers a school which is designed for students with moderate to severe developmental disabilities. The instructional program, which is aligned to the New York State Standards for Students with Severe Disabilities and the New York State Common Core Learning Standards, builds confidence and capabilities of students and focuses on developing communication skills and personal independence. Research-based methodologies, such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), visual strategies, the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), augmentative communications systems, functional behavioral assessment and positive behavioral supports are utilized in this program. The Rosemary Kennedy School consists of the elementary, middle and high school classes as well as district-based classes which provide mainstreaming opportunities for students. Community-based instruction is an essential part of the curriculum and compliments traditional classroom learning. Students participate in recreational activities (libraries, bowling), life skills (grocery shopping, restaurants), volunteer work sites (Mercy Hospital, Hofstra University) and vocational enclaves in the community (fast food restaurants, retail stores). Each student is educated by an interdisciplinary team comprised of the classroom teacher, teacher aides, psychologist, social worker, related service personnel, curriculum teachers and administrators. Parents are encouraged to participate in their child's education through daily communication notebooks, conferences, visits, parent training sessions and parent support groups. Transition planning for students from ages 12 to 21 is facilitated by vocational rehabilitation counselors and social workers in coordination with students and their families prior to graduation. Day Habilitation services are designed to help people of all ages with developmental disabilities to develop and maintain skills, abilities, and interests while being active members of their communities. Support individuals with independent living skill development, goal achievement and community involvement. Offers educational instruction, as well as opportunities for social and recreational activities. Experiential learning opportunities and volunteering offered through community partnerships. Transportation available. Medication monitoring. Preauthorization for Day Habilitation Services is done through OPWDD.

Financial assistance made available for patients with limited incomes who are uninsured or underinsured, regardless of immigration status, and who meet the income guidelines. Also available are payment plans for those who need help but don’t qualify.

Offers a voluntary developmental evaluation and services program offered by New York State and administered locally by the Nassau County Department of Health Office for Children with Special Needs. To be eligible for EI services, children must be under 3 years of age and have a confirmed disability or established developmental delay, as defined by New York State, in one or more of the following areas of development: physical, cognitive, communication, social-emotional, and/or adaptive. Evaluations are conducted to determine eligibility. A variety of therapeutic and support services are offered to eligible infants and toddlers with disabilities and their families. Major provisions of the program include: Identification and referral of children at risk or suspected of disability by primary referral sources; Periodic developmental screening and tracking of at risk children; Service coordination for eligible children and families; A multidisciplinary evaluation provided at no cost to parents to determine eligibility; Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) for eligible children and families; Provision of early intervention services in the IFSP at no cost to parents and Delivery of services in natural settings in the community where children of the same age are typically found, to the maximum extent appropriate. Offers a therapeutic/residential setting for students ages 12-21 with classifications of autism, emotional disturbance, or health impairment. Westbrook Preparatory School is the first residential New York State Regents junior/senior high school for students with Asperger syndrome, high functioning autism and related conditions who require intensive support in a year-round school setting. Offers a therapeutic, residential experience integrated with an academic program individually attuned to each student’s unique strengths and challenges. Teaches independence while preparing them for post-secondary education, employment and life in the community. Day students may be referred by their school districts.

Offers a variety of health care options for individuals of all ages who want to remain at home instead of being placed in a nursing home or want to complete their recovery at home. Provides live-in health aides if patients need more care, also can focus on conditions such as diabetes, asthma, IV therapy, cardiac care, HIV/AIDS, ALS, multiple sclerosis, etc.

Provides rapid HIV testing results within 20-30 minutes and gives referrals to support services as needed. Also provides AID/HIV counseling, along with educational and awareness programs.

Victim-centered, compassionate medical and forensic care in a private setting for rape and sexual assault survivors. Free physical examination with an injury assessment, collection of forensic evidence and appropriate prophylaxis medications provided by specially trained medical professionals. Victim Information Bureau of Suffolk (VIBS) will provide accompaniment by a rape crisis counselor for emotional support during the exam and follow-up by the SANE Liaison for counseling resources, medical and legal advocacy.

Processes applications for a variety of health insurance programs including Medicaid, Medicaid Managed Care, Family Health Plus (FHP), and Prenatal Care Assistance Program (PCAP), Family Planning Benefits Program (FPBP), Baby/Adult Diaper Assistance, Medicaid Buy-In for Working People with Disabilities (MBI-WPD), and the Medicare Savings Program (MSP). Also provides transportation for Medicaid recipients requiring Medicaid-covered services.

Diagnostic and Treatment Center offers primary medical services as well as psychiatric and psychological, podiatry, physical, speech and occupational therapy, audiology, dental, dermatology, endocrinology, gynecology, neurology, nutrition, optometry, and physiatry to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, mental illness, those who have been dually diagnosed and/or those with traumatic brain injury.

Provides youth and adult peer education strategies and skills to foster awareness and prevention of HIV/AIDS, as well as support to persons infected and affected by the HIV/AIDS virus. Outreach includes youth and adult conferences and workshops, participation in health and community fairs, and peer educator training.
