Offers child care providers, over the age of 18 and licensed or registered by New York State Office of Children and Family Services, the MAT (Medication Administration Training) certifying child care providers to administer medication to children in their programs. Also offers parents and child care providers health care consults with RN's on any issue regarding MAT and non-MAT Health Care Programs. Will conduct site visits to ensure compliance with state child care regulations and act as resources for child care providers.

Provides a wide variety of services for community members including ACT and SAT preparation, babysitter training, basic computer skills, driver education, online courses, and certificate programs.

Provides education and training to child care providers, both private and from agencies. Also provides education to groups and agencies regarding various aspects of child care.

Offers courses in First Aid, CPR, AED, Baby Sitting, Water Safety and Workplace Safety programs, and Disaster Response and Preparedness.

Provides consultation services to employers for a fee on child care options. These services include enhanced referrals, worksite needs assessments, work and family seminars, technical assistance in development of on-site centers, dependent care assistance plans (which provide payroll deductions for child care or dependent adult care), intranet child care searches, and other family friendly policies. Council offers employers several options that best suit their business size and budget.Family friendly employers know that these services are a sound investment, not only to your employees, but also an improved corporate image and positive community relations. Trains people through formal certification courses and informal presentations to prepare for and respond to life threatening emergencies, including CPR, first aid, water safety, baby sitter course, and presentations of disaster plans and kits.

Training available through Health and Safety Services for individuals, families, professional rescuers, and businesses. Areas of training include First Aid Basics, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for infants, children, and adults, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use, Pet First Aid, and Babysitter Training. In Aquatics, areas of training include Learn To Swim, Life Guarding, Water Safety Instruction, and Life Guard Management. Classroom and online instruction available.

Offers a 120-hour CDA program. The CDA program represents a national effort to credential qualified caregivers who work with children from birth through age five. The continuing education department offers a CDA program for the three childcare settings: Home visitor personnel; Family child care and Center-based. The CDA competency standards are the core of the program in addition to learning pediatric first aid and the identification and reporting of child abuse/neglect. The program will be directed in the following 8 content areas: Planning safe healthy environment to invite learning; Steps to advance children’s physical and intellectual development; Positive ways to support children’s social and emotional development; Strategies to establish productive relationships with families; Strategies to manage an effective program operation; Maintaining commitment to professionalism; Observing/recording children’s behavior; and Principles of child growth and development. The Child Development Associate is a person who has successfully complete CDA assessment and has been awarded the CDA Credential. S/he is able to meet the specific needs of children and works with parents and other adults to nurture children's physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth in a child development framework. Credentials are not awarded solely for the successful completion of the 120 hour course. CDA candidates are also required to have 480 hours of experience working with children under 5 years of age in a structured child care center within the past 5 years. Provides child care education in the form of workshops, seminars and conferences for organizations that work with children.

Provides assistance to Child Care Providers by helping them develop their Health Care Plans that describe how they will meet the requirements and standards set by New York State with regards to health policies and medication. After preparation of the Health Care Plan, a site visit is made to ensure compliance with the plan and to verify administration in their program. Health Services is presently made up of two Registered Nurses (RNs) who are Health Care Consultants. Both are trained as Medication Administration Training (MAT) instructors and provide the 8 hour required program at Child Care Council of Nassau.The department actively develops, prepares and presents educational programs for child care providers, both at the Child Care Council of Nassau and at individual programs. The Health Care Consultants field many technical assistance phone calls and act as a source of information and guidance in caring for the health needs of all children in child care.
