Consists of five operating Divisions (Fire Prevention, Park Ranger, Ordinance Compliance, Waterways and Navigation and Emergency Management), responsible for local law enforcement and safety/security activities within the Town operating around the clock. Operates special handicapped hotline.

Conducts periodic inspections of public and private buildings for conformity to standard fire prevention regulations establishes procedures for fire safety inspects new installations for fire safety measures and investigates causes of fires.

The Incorporated Village of Hempstead’s Fire Department provides fire protection and fire extinguishing services, initiating life rescue, rendering emergency medical assistance, controlling hazardous material situation including weapons of mass destruction incidents and providing related emergency services.

Inspects buildings for conformity to fire prevention laws. Visits scenes of fires to determine causes and educates public in fire safety requirements. The Implements advisories on the usage of mobile food preparation vehicles, portable heaters, recreational fires, fire extinguishers and barbecues/grills. Division of Fire Prevention is a multifaceted organization, charged with a number of critical responsibilities including: Certified Code Enforcement Officials,fire cause & origin investigations, hazardous materials response team, emergency management, peace officers and triennial inspections.

Issues building permits, C.O. inspections and searches, stop work orders, building violations, sign permits, flood development permits, and fire inspections.

Provides inspections and enforcement activities for building codes, fire investigations, public education, technical response assistance to the Fire and EMS Agencies within Suffolk County and staffing for various positions within the county’s incident command structure and support of emergency management operations.
