The Building Department maintains a variety of information for each property in the Village. Building permits, plans, certificates of occupancy and surveys are just some of the documents that may be available in the Building Department. The Building Department is also the principal code enforcement agency of the Village for many non-police matters. In addition to enforcing local zoning and the N.Y.S. Uniform Building and Fire Prevention Codes, which regulate the use and occupancy of private land and structures, the Building Inspector, Code Enforcement Officer, and Fire Inspectors are responsible for the enforcement of various other Village Code regulations.

The Village Engineer enforces building codes and zoning and environmental regulations in Croton-on-Hudson. Their other responsibilities include advising Village Boards and agencies regarding building, zoning, environmental and engineering matters, assisting in developing plans and specifications for capital improvement projects, and overseeing construction within the village.

A program that brings the Victim Impact Panel model into local high schools as part of the studentâs application for a parking permit to allow students to drive to school. The program mandates that both the student and a parent attend this modified VIP which includes victims of substance related crashes as well as representatives from the District Attorneyâs Office, the insurance industry and the medical community. Parents and students gain an understanding of the serious legal, medical, insurance and emotional costs resulting from drinking, drugging and driving. Families are asked to create a driving contract.
