Healthy Neighborhoods Program - Niagara County Department of Health

Health and safety program that is dedicated to improving health outcomes and better quality of life for Niagara County Residents. The program has six focus areas;1. Fire Prevention, 2. Air Quality, 3. Preventing Lead Poisoning, 4. Fall & Accident prevention, 5. Smoking Education & Cessation, and 6. Asthma prevention from environmental triggers. The HNP team is staffed by a Health Educator-Manager, and Health Technicians. Technicians assess homes during a visit, provides recommendations and free products to improve health and wellbeing. Products may include smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, asthma relief products, and cleaning supplies. The HNP is not an enforcement agency. All identifying information gathered during visits will remain confidential.

Responsible for implementing programs and providing information to help individuals live healthier lives by minimizing environmental health threats. Some efforts are targeted to the population at large, such as monitoring of public and private drinking water supplies, food safety in restaurants, fire safety in hotels, and permitting of mass gatherings. Other programs target specific needs such as interventions to prevent illness from rabies, lead poisoning, failing septic systems, and sale of tobacco products to minors.

Rabies Disease & Vector Control Program - ECDOH

Through enforcement, education, and other disease prevention activities, is responsible for the following health programs: Rabies Prevention: Conducts investigations of domestic animal bites and scratches and wildlife encounters between people and/or their pets. Free Rabies Vaccination Clinics for dogs, cats, and ferrets. Rodent Control: Responds to complaints and service requests regarding rodent infestations; baiting available for eligible properties. Public Health Nuisance Complaints (Public Health Nuisance = anything dangerous to human life or detrimental to health): Conducts investigations of complaints such as, but not limited to: properties that have rodent infestations, improperly stored garbage, junk and debris, improper bird and wildlife feeding, dog feces not cleaned up and disposed of properly. Arbovirus Prevention (Arbovirus = viruses transmitted by bloodsucking arthropods such as ticks, fleas, or mosquitoes): Conducts investigations of complaints such as standing water, improperly maintained swimming pools, and other man-made containers that hold water and create mosquito harborage.
