Responds to reports of rodent harborage, outdoor burning, household waste and similar complaints affecting public health. Issues permits for open burning. NYS Building Code Violations referred to municipal code enforcement officers.

The Environmental Health Division is responsible for enforcing NYS Public Health Law and the State Sanitary Code in Schoharie County. The division provides services, guidance and education, which prevents illness, improves people's health, protects the environment and enhances the quality of life for all Schoharie County residents.

Responsible for implementing programs and providing information to help individuals live healthier lives by minimizing environmental health threats. Some efforts are targeted to the population at large, such as monitoring of public and private drinking water supplies, food safety in restaurants, fire safety in hotels, and permitting of mass gatherings. Other programs target specific needs such as interventions to prevent illness from rabies, lead poisoning, failing septic systems, and sale of tobacco products to minors.
