Environmental Health - Genesee County Health Department

Provides a wide variety of services essential to the health and well-being of all Genesee County Residents. Service areas include public water supply protection, community sanitation and food protection, private water and sewage disposal systems, realty subdivision plan review, public health nuisances, residential lead investigations, chemical emergencies, rabies investigations, and enforcement of both the Adolescent Tobacco Use and Prevention Act (ATUPA) and the NYS Clean Indoor Air Act (CIAA). The Environmental Health division also operates multiple anti-rabies immunization clinics annually to administer vaccines to domestic animals, including cats, dogs, and ferrets, in order to reduce the spread of the potentially life threatening disease.

Public Health Laboratories - ECDOH

Provides public health and environmental laboratory services to local health departments, hospitals, medical care providers, managed care organizations, and residents throughout Western New York. Serves as the primary provider of laboratory testing for the Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) and other local health departments' public health and environmental activities. Provides rapid test result turn-around time and offers a competitive fee schedule. Customized testing is negotiable and ECPHL staff are available for consultation. Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program - ECDOH

The Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (Child Lead) is responsible for the case management of lead poisoned children in Erie County. Addresses the potential for lead exposure, as well as preventing lead poisoned children from further exposure. Conducts investigations and provides information to the parents or guardians of children under the age of 18 that have tested positive for elevated blood lead level. New York State Guidelines require that all children be screened for lead at ages one and two years and every year up to age six if certain risk factors, such as residing in pre-1978 housing, are present. Activities of Child Lead include: - Case management for children with elevated blood lead levels - Providing information on sources of lead exposure, methods to reduce lead exposure, and medical treatment for children and pregnant women with elevated blood lead levels. - Referrals/prescriptions for free lead testing lab work for children under age 6 -Providing information and referrals for resources to assist with lead hazard reduction activities, including community training and grant awards

Lead Poisoning Prevention Program - Niagara County Department of Health

Committed to reducing the potential of lead exposure for all children living in Niagara County. Lead is a poison that can affect every system of the child's body. It is particularly harmful to the developing brain, sometimes causing severe developmental delays that may affect the child throughout his or her lifetime. Program goals include assurance that all children ages one and two (and up to age six if at risk) have been tested for lead poisoning, minimizing the risk of childhood lead exposure through educational home visits and environmental referral, if appropriate; providing information on proper medical evaluation and follow up; preventing lead exposure to children before they are harmed; and identifying, controlling, and/or safely removing lead hazards in the child's environment. Services provided include lead testing of uninsured children who require a test; reviewing lead test results; notifying parent or guardian of elevated test results; visiting parent or guardian at home to provide education on care of children with elevated blood lead levels; and if appropriate, referring children to the NCDOH Early Intervention Program for developmental testing.

Environmental Health Division - Chautauqua County Health Department

Conducts property transfer surveys which includes bacteriological water analysis and testing of on-site waste water treatment systems. Regulates all public water supplies as defined by Part 5 of the NYS Sanitary Code. Oversees cooling tower registry and reviews water testing results. Investigates special issues including rabies, radon, nuisance complaints, smoking in public, emergencies related to Public Health, West Nile Virus/Eastern Equine Encephalitis, mosquito vector surveillance, and control measures as warranted. Provides free rabies clinics for dogs, cats and domesticated ferrets in various locations throughout the year. Call or go online to find locations and register. HOARDING INITIATIVE PROGRAM | FAMILY SERVICE SOCIETY OF YONKERS

A free service for older adults help individuals who are afflicted with hoarding, who compulsively accumulate possessions and fail to discard trash creating an unsafe, hazardous and dangerous living environment for themselves and those living in the immediate vicinity. Provide free services to low to moderate income seniors that are unable to afford cleaning services. Mental health, clean-up, organizing, extermination, legal assistance are among the free services that will be provided.

PUBLIC POOLS AND BATHING BEACH INSPECTIONS | SCHENECTADY COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES

The Environmental Health unit is responsible for inspections of all public pools and bathing beaches to ensure compliance with Part 6 of the New York State Sanitary Code. Inspections are done on a quarterly basis for year-round facilities and monthly for seasonal facilities. Additionally, the unit investigates all complaints, whether general and or illness related to the facilities.

LEADSAFE Niagara County - Lead Hazard Reduction Program

A federally funded grant program designed to help families stay safe from lead. Homes built prior to 1978 could contain lead-based paint. When small children are exposed to lead it can cause behavioral problems, damage to organs, and learning problems. Homeowners and renters in Niagara Falls and Lockport may qualify for free or low-cost lead-based paint control and housing improvements. Potential items that qualify include replacement windows, replacement doors, fresh paint, aluminum trim, and more. Application to this program is open to any household with a child under 6 (either living in the home or frequently visiting). Assistance is available to determine if applicants meet the income and eligibility requirements. Rental property owners are encouraged to apply as well.

Healthy Neighborhoods Program (HNP) - ECDOH

Provides environmental information, products, and a home safety survey by Health Inspectors/Educators. Home visits include an assessment for indoor air quality, asthma control, carbon monoxide poisoning, fire and burn safety, lead poisoning hazards, unintentional injury, smoking cessation, and housing and property maintenance. Following the home assessment, intervention products and services are provided according to need and interest. Free products include: smoke detectors and batteries, CO detectors, child safety products, cleaning supplies, asthma trigger management supplies, and radon test kits to qualifying families.

Lead Poisoning & Prevention - Chautauqua County Health Department

Provides services including free home inspection for lead hazards and instruction on lead abatement for tenants, landlords, and homeowners.
