DBCH offers information and public awareness of rabies. Also provides the preventive vaccines for domestic pets, and post exposure vaccines to people. If anyone suspects an animal is rabid, contact the Department of Health or the local police department immediately.

Provides information and public awareness of West Nile Virus to the community, and educates residents to remove anything that might hold standing water, such as tires, wheelbarrows, buckets, etc, and report unremovable standing water which could create a mosquito breeding ground.

Provides seasonal flu and pneumonia vaccines, along with information and public awareness of the flu, how to prevent it, and what to do immediately if anyone comes in contact with someone with symptoms of the flu. The Seasonal Flu shot also includes the H1N1 strain. Please Note: Children under 18, pregnant women, or adults with chronic medical conditions should receive the vaccine from their primary doctors or obtain a prescription for the vaccines.

Environmental Health - ECDOH

The Environmental Health Division is dedicated to protecting people in Erie County from biological, chemical, and physical hazards that may be present in food, water, and the built environment. Environmental Health sanitarians, engineers, nurses, educators and vector control workers: - Conduct inspections and investigations - Educate and motivate the public to prevent environmental hazards - Provide medical case management for children diagnosed with lead poisoning - Provide timely environmental health information in times of emergency - Provide assistance and information in cases of potential rabies exposures - Review plans and advise the public in environmentally safe construction, development and upgrades to facilities - Assist in the control of disease-causing vectors - Enforce applicable local, state, and national codes, and regulations to protect public health

Environmental Health - Genesee County Health Department

Provides a wide variety of services essential to the health and well-being of all Genesee County Residents. Service areas include public water supply protection, community sanitation and food protection, private water and sewage disposal systems, realty subdivision plan review, public health nuisances, residential lead investigations, chemical emergencies, rabies investigations, and enforcement of both the Adolescent Tobacco Use and Prevention Act (ATUPA) and the NYS Clean Indoor Air Act (CIAA). The Environmental Health division also operates multiple anti-rabies immunization clinics annually to administer vaccines to domestic animals, including cats, dogs, and ferrets, in order to reduce the spread of the potentially life threatening disease.

Environmental Health Division - Chautauqua County Health Department

Conducts property transfer surveys which includes bacteriological water analysis and testing of on-site waste water treatment systems. Regulates all public water supplies as defined by Part 5 of the NYS Sanitary Code. Oversees cooling tower registry and reviews water testing results. Investigates special issues including rabies, radon, nuisance complaints, smoking in public, emergencies related to Public Health, West Nile Virus/Eastern Equine Encephalitis, mosquito vector surveillance, and control measures as warranted. Provides free rabies clinics for dogs, cats and domesticated ferrets in various locations throughout the year. Call or go online to find locations and register. Responsible for food service establishment permitting, education, and inspection. Oversees permitting and enforces the NYS Sanitary Code for Bathing Beaches, Children Camps, Swimming Pools, Temporary Residences, Tanning Salons, and Tattoo and Piercing Parlors. Investigates and oversees the abatement of lead-based paint hazards in dwellings where children under 6 years of age resides.

BUREAU OF SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTION (STI) & HIV CONTROL | NASSAU COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

Offers services and testing for those who have HIV or an STI. Knowing your status helps you make health decisions to prevent getting or transmitting HIV or STIs. Treatment is available; it is important to start treatment as soon as possible after diagnosis to improve your overall health and decrease the risk of spreading illness to others. Confidential testing and treatment options are available at many local health care facilities, including community partners. Nassau County Department of Health offers services to persons with HIV or other STIs and their sexual or needle-sharing partners. Partner Services works with people to plan the best way to notify their sex and needle-sharing partners about their exposure to an STI or HIV. Partner Services is voluntary and confidential. In addition the Department of Health offers Ryan White HIV Services. The Ryan White Care Act is a federally funded grant to provide services for people living with HIV/AIDS in Nassau & Suffolk counties. RABIES CONTROL PROGRAM | ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Offers free rabies vaccination clinics for owners of dogs, ferrets, and cats. Owners are required to keep pets on a leash or in a carrier and bring their pet's past rabies shot records.

Provides post- exposure treatment to humans when exposure occurs. Confinement of domesticated cats, dogs, ferrets, and livestock is conducted as needed to reduce the spread of rabies.

NYS Public Health Law requires that all puppies and kittens get their first rabies shot at 3 months of age. They also need to get a booster shot at 1 year old, and again every three years.
