The Environmental Health Division is responsible for enforcing NYS Public Health Law and the State Sanitary Code in Schoharie County. The division provides services, guidance and education, which prevents illness, improves people's health, protects the environment and enhances the quality of life for all Schoharie County residents.

DBCH offers information and public awareness of rabies. Also provides the preventive vaccines for domestic pets, and post exposure vaccines to people. If anyone suspects an animal is rabid, contact the Department of Health or the local police department immediately.
Regulates facilities that store toxic & hazardous materials, regulated under Article XI of the Nassau County Public Health Ordinance (NCPHO), these facilities must register such storage areas with the Nassau County Department of Health (NCDOH). Call for detailed information.
DBCH offers a free tick identification service to the public that includes identification of the species, gender/life stage, estimate of feeding time and level of engorgement. The service also provides an official record of the identification that can be forwarded to a medical provider. Also provides information on Lyme's disease prevention and treatment.
Regulates and inspects the operation of public pools, beaches, and recreational spray grounds that are permitted by Nassau County Department of Health. Licenses Tattoo/Body Piercing Artists that perform tattoo, permanent makeup, and body piercing services in Nassau County. Any individual that performs tattoo, permanent makeup, or body piercing services in Nassau County is required to hold a Tattoo/Body Piercing Artist Certification issued by the Nassau County Department of Health. This Certification is valid for three years from the date of issuance, and it is the individual’s responsibility to renew their Certification in a timely manner. The Department of Health also licenses Tattoo/Body Piercing facilities where these services are offered. Aims to prevent human rabies via the testing of suspect animals, the rabies vaccination of pets, the monitoring of biting animals, the monitoring of animals exposed to rabies, and the rabies vaccination of persons with known or suspected rabies exposure.
Responsible for developing plans for the public health response to man-made and natural health emergencies. In the event of a public health emergency, risk communication messages will be developed by the Health Department and disseminated to the general public through various media channels and community organizations. These messages will include the potential risks from exposure, signs and symptoms people should be aware of, and steps the public can take to reduce their risks from the health emergency.
