REGIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL | NASSAU BOCES
Enables students to enrich their education through additional courses; make up work for courses they failed or were unable to complete during the school year; complete high school programs in less than the time normally required; or improve their competencies in basic skills. It also provides for the administration of Regents exams in accordance with the Commissioner's regulations. Any two school districts that house their summer school population at a common site may participate in the Nassau BOCES Regional Summer School on a BOCES-aidable basis. The courses offered at any particular site are determined by the participating school districts in collaboration with Nassau BOCES, and may include remedial secondary courses and short-term academic or exploratory enrichment subjects at the elementary and secondary level. Provides comprehensive educational services for students with multiple disabilities including students with physical and developmental impairments as well as students with autism spectrum disorders, aged 5 to 21. All students are placed in small ratio classes allowing for a true individualized learning experience. Multiple methodologies of teaching are used in conjunction with state-of-the-art technology to provide stimulating educational experiences for all students. Language, academic readiness, social competence and activities of daily living are taught within a structured, aided language classroom environment. Trained staff use visual strategies combined with sensory activities and technology to encourage the growth of communication and interpersonal skills. Special Career Education (SCE) creates opportunities for all students by providing them with the technical and academic skills needed to prepare for future employment and a successful path to college or other post-secondary programs. SCE provides technical training to prepare students for a successful career. The structured training gives students the tools needed to be successful in a job after high school and/or further post-secondary education. The BOCES curriculum integrates basic sciences, medical sciences and instruction in diagnostic medical sonography with supervised clinical experience in hospitals and doctors’ offices from Manhattan to Southampton. FAST-TRACK HEAVY EQUIPMENT CERTIFICATION | THE LEARN CENTER
Offers a Fast-Track 7-hour course for those contractors and experienced operators who have experience as a heavy equipment operator and are not certified. Nassau BOCES has partnered with The LEARN Center to offer a solution that will protect you or your business from OSHA/NYC DOB safety violations. New laws and regulations are requiring that operating engineers be certified in the safe operation of heavy equipment. Certification is available on the backhoe, bulldozer, excavator, front-end loader and skid-steer. This 7-hour evaluation course consists of a 4-hour safety class and evaluation of the operator skills through practical exams for up to 3-hours.
