Provides summer residential program for economically- and academically-disadvantaged high school students; provides follow-up throughout academic year at target high schools and at Tutorial Center.

Designed for students, ages 16 - 21, who are assigned to the center as a recommended court placement or for at-risk students whose needs are not being met in their current school setting. The program is designed to prepare students to complete the requirements for a Regents, Local, or High School Equivalency Diploma. Courses of study will also infuse contextualized learning, career preparation, and skills achievement into daily lessons. The program model utilizes a non-traditional learning environment to enhance academic performance and offers students real-world, hands-on application of skills through a collaborative work experience opportunity at Pal-O-Mine’s Equestrian, Inc. The program also encompasses individual and group counseling, substance abuse counseling, employment and soft skills training. Each participant’s treatment plan is individualized to address his or her needs, strengths and challenges. This program will provide a seamless continuum of transitional services to students. Each student will meet with a counselor to establish an individualized transition plan. The transition plan will focus on meeting educational, employment and transportation needs in addition to connecting students with community-based organizations and resources. Eastern Suffolk BOCES has developed partnerships with federal, state, and local agencies to create links to resources that provide support to at-risk students.

Enables students to enrich their education through additional courses; make up work for courses they failed or were unable to complete during the school year; complete high school programs in less than the time normally required; or improve their competencies in basic skills. It also provides for the administration of Regents exams in accordance with the Commissioner's regulations. Any two school districts that house their summer school population at a common site may participate in the Nassau BOCES Regional Summer School on a BOCES-aidable basis. The courses offered at any particular site are determined by the participating school districts in collaboration with Nassau BOCES, and may include remedial secondary courses and short-term academic or exploratory enrichment subjects at the elementary and secondary level. Designed to provide additional support to agricultural migrant children who live in temporary or transitional housing, doubled up with other families due to economic need and all who do not have a fixed, regular and adequate place to live. These homeless / migrant students are also eligible for additional assistance through Title I Part A in addition to MEP services. ESBOCES serves as the Lead LEA for the ESPERANZA Program which serves agricultural migrant eligible children and youth ages 3 – 22 that are also affected by homelessness in the Long Island – Metro and (7) additional regions across NYS. Students are provided with additional advocacy, school supplies, emergency assistance such as food and clothing if needed, as well transportation needed to access instructional programs and education-related activities. Services are designed to support students and school districts in providing access and assistance to homeless, migrant students, and to remove the additional barriers to education that they experience due to their lack of stable housing.

Psycho-education specialists and other professionals provide psycho-educational, psychological and neuropsychological testing and screening, batteries, educational intervention programs, and learning profile assessments and individualized tutoring. Offers a special program for those with learning disabilities in middle and high school who need help which specific focus on the basics of reading and math to build a foundation so that students can begin to build their education and make learning easier.

Offers a program for students displaying a wide variation of disabilities, ages five through twelve, at the elementary school of the Special Education Division. This program provides instruction in basic skills of reading, writing, communication and math. For those students with multiple disabilities, instructional emphasis is on Activities of Daily Living, mobility and basic communication. In addition to basic classroom instruction students may receive adaptive physical education if needed. An enrichment program in basic skills and basic technology education is part of the core curriculum which assists students in preparing for the New York State standardized tests or Alternative Assessments. Offers remedial courses for students in grades 6–12 to make up deficiencies in academic work. This wide variety of remedial courses can benefit students with low or failing grades. These courses help to address regression or summer slide in order to prepare students for upcoming courses. This does not replace a full course year. Residents within the ten (10) participating districts (listed below) whose children are registered in public, private or parochial schools, grades 6-12, are eligible to attend, with permission of their home school principal or designee. Consultations and trainings are designed to assist staff to work effectively at sites with the most challenging students on the autism spectrum. These services are added to a District’s Commitment Form/student IEP when the service of a behavioral specialist or autism consultant is recommended by the CSE for implementation on a regular basis over a period of time. Autism consultants will address applied behavior analysis strategies, behavioral strategies, and educational strategies. Parent Training provides a bridge between home and school programs and can assist parents in utilizing strategies in the home that are consistent with those used in school to facilitate student progress. Home ABA Services are designed to meet the needs of component districts for students with autism spectrum disorders to provide for continuity and generalization. Methodologies include applied behavior analysis, discrete trial instruction, and task analysis. This center is staffed by certified special educators dedicated to providing a high-quality, individualized learning environment. Class ratios, as determined by student need, are 6:1:1 or 9:1:2. Reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies are aligned to the New York State Common Core Learning Standards and address students' cognitive levels and learning styles. Learning, behavioral or developmental disabilities that interfere with students’ abilities to succeed in general education are addressed by social and emotional supports integrated into classroom activities. A school-wide growth recognition PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support) program addresses social and emotional needs and a specific plan is developed for each child by the child's teacher and counselor. Social learning skills are emphasized throughout the curriculum and students work as a team to support each other in social growth. Parents are kept informed concerning their child's progress and are encouraged to be active partners in the education of their child by reinforcing what the child learns in school at home.
