Immigration & Refugee Assistance Program - Catholic Charities

Refugee Resettlement Services provides the following for agency sponsored refugees: housing, food, interpretation, translation, assessment, referral, social adjustment, transportation, cultural transition facilitation, and employment services. Also offers English as a Second Language instruction and employment services for refugees. Immigration Services provides photos, assistance with USCIS applications, and naturalization classes.

CITIZENSHIP EXAM PREPARATION | SUNY WESTCHESTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE - PUTNAM CAMPUS

Offers a 7-week course, each semester, to help immigrants to prepare for the citizenship exam. This course is designed for individuals whose English is at least at a high-beginning level (ELI Level 3+). Students will learn about American history and government to prepare them for the civics portion of the exam, and will practice their English skills to prepare for the reading, writing, and speaking portions of the exam. By the end of the course, students will also be familiar with the structure of the Citizenship interview.

ADULT & COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAM | ALVERTA B. GRAY SCHULTZ MIDDLE SCHOOL

Offers residents, ages 21 and over, the literacy skills needed to successfully negotiate positive outcomes for themselves and their children. Designed to meet the post-secondary education as well as the employment needs of Hempstead residents, the Adult and Community Education Program offers traditional literacy classes (ESOL, GED, ABE, Citizenship), information and support services at various sites located throughout the community. Educational case management, individual and group counseling are also offered to meet the needs of students. Referrals to other community sites operating during the day and evenings are made based on need and availability. In addition The Adult Education Program also offers Academic Intervention Services, designed to provide quality educational tutoring in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment for children between the ages of 5-14 whose parents are actively enrolled and attending the Hempstead Adult and Community Education Program. EDUCATION PROGRAM | REFUGEE AND IMMIGRANT SELF-EMPOWERMENT (RISE)

Provides a citizenship class for immigrant and refugee parents who are legal residents to become United Stated citizens. Provides intensive training on completing the necessary reading and writing portion of the citizenship test and intensive training on the 100 questions designed by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services during the interview process. Provides assistance in completing government documents such as the N-400 naturalization application, offers ESL classes and provides adult programs, with emphasis for women empowerment, yearly summer internship programs for high school and college children, and a summer Ubuntu program to help in mentorship and improve children's writing skills.
