Nassau BOCES has partnered with The LEARN Center to provide you with a broad base of knowledge through classroom instruction and practical experience in the operation of heavy equipment. Training and certification is available on the backhoe, bulldozer, excavator, front-end loader and skid-steer. Topics include safety, maintenance and the practical operation of the equipment. Each year, high school students from all parts of Nassau County choose to add Barry Tech to their high school experience. In addition to a high school diploma, these students want a head start in learning skills needed for employment and/or more direction in what they want to study at college. A successful year or two at Barry Tech can enable you to: enter the world of work after graduation; continue advanced career studies in a technical training course and attend a two- or four-year college. Barry Tech courses are taught in environments that simulate the real world. Classes may be held in an airplane hangar, horse training stable, carpentry shop or video production studio. Central Service Technicians are responsible for a variety of vital services throughout a healthcare facility. They are experts in the care and sterilization of surgical instruments in hospitals, surgical centers, physician offices, and more. The program is designed to prepare entry-level technicians, and may also serve as a review for practicing Central Service Technicians who wish to become certified. The program will focus on the scientific principles of infection control, the cleaning, processing, and sterilization of medical and surgical instruments, storage, distribution, inventory control and patient care equipment management. Offers a Clinical Medical Assistant - Intensive program. This program will help you start a career in medicine as a Clinical Medical Assistant and take your first steps in a job opportunity program. Prepare for the Certified Health Professionals Certification exams to become employed as a Medical Assistant, Electrocardiograph Technician or Phlebotomy Technician. The 160-hour clinical externship springboards you into starting your career. Study human anatomy, medical terminology, hematology, phlebotomy, and electrocardiography. Learn the skills to assist with medical emergencies, physical exams, and laboratory testing. Perform live venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures. Professional skills to assist in medical offices, hospitals and health care facilities will be taught along with a 160-hour supervised clinical externship rotation.
