The instructional program is aligned to the New York State Common Core Learning Standards and addresses students' cognitive levels and learning styles. Instructional and work-based learning opportunities required for the Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) Commencement Credential are also provided for all ninth graders. Students meeting the requirements towards a Skills and Credentials Certificate (SACC) work toward developing life skills and build personal independence. The school-wide Positive Behavior and Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program provides concrete lessons toward positive interactions. The Robert Williams School offers unique learning opportunities including the Therapeutic Learning Collaborative (TLC) which consists of two programs: Intensive Support Program (ISP) and Transitional Support Program (TSP) . A partnership between Nassau BOCES and The North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center, the ISP provides individual, group, and family counseling by North Shore licensed, clinical social workers and psychiatrists. Psychiatric services including medication distribution are provided by North Shore and monthly family counseling sessions are required to remain in ISP. The TSP provides services for students who are ready to transition to a less restrictive environment. Students in TSP continue in their educational placement and receive individual and group counseling from BOCES psychologists, social workers or guidance counselors. Nassau BOCES psychologists provide counseling on a regular basis, are trained in crisis prevention and assess students’ needs for a Behavior Intervention Plan. The school social worker provides counseling, family support services such as SSI, respite and CPS whenever necessary. The guidance counselor provides counseling, assists in the student’s individual transitional plan (beginning at age 14) and helps students to obtain working papers. The program is designed to prepare students to complete the requirements for a Regents, Local, or High School Equivalency Diploma. Courses of study will also infuse contextualized learning, career preparation, and skills achievement into daily lessons. The program model utilizes a non-traditional learning environment to enhance academic performance and offers students real-world, hands-on application of skills through a collaborative work experience opportunity at Pal-O-Mine’s Equestrian, Inc. The program also encompasses individual and group counseling, substance abuse counseling, employment and soft skills training. Each participant’s treatment plan is individualized to address his or her needs, strengths and challenges. This program will provide a seamless continuum of transitional services to students. Each student will meet with a counselor to establish an individualized transition plan. The transition plan will focus on meeting educational, employment and transportation needs in addition to connecting students with community-based organizations and resources. Eastern Suffolk BOCES has developed partnerships with federal, state, and local agencies to create links to resources that provide support to at-risk students.

Offers a secondary program which is a collaborative effort between the Special Education Division and the Career & Technical Education Division. This program prepares high school students for graduation and enables them to be self-sufficient adults with ongoing employment and ability to live independently. Students are exposed to various vocational training experiences in this program. Special education staff provide academic instruction that incorporates the Common Core Learning Standards while vocation teachers teach the skills needed in each student's chosen vocation. All students at Manor Plains High School participate in one of the small class size programs offered through Wilson Tech. In addition to learning work-based skills, Tech’s Huntington campus also offers MPHS students opportunities to participate in leadership organizations and skills competitions.
