Formally married regardless whether they still reside together; 4. Have a child in common regardless of marital status or have lived together; 5. Not related by blood or affinity and are or have been in an intimate relationship regardless if it is sexual in nature

Assists spouses and family members in obtaining Orders of Protection and in the preparation of family offense domestic violence, custody, visitation, modification and enforcement of divorce decree petitions for the Family Court. Provides referral and monitoring of court ordered services. Refers survivors of domestic violence to the Rockland Family Shelter for advocacy, sheltering and legal assistance.

Offers a 24 hour hotline for individuals who are survivors of domestic violence. Also provides a safe, secure emergency shelter for victims and their children. Assistance is available with obtaining orders of protection with family court including accompaniment to court, appointments and other supportive services. Provides personalized safety plans, children educational programs, and domestic violence counseling. Services are available to men, women and children. Donations of new clothing are accepted; new socks underwear and bras, are most needed, as well as pajamas, sweatpants/yoga pants, t-shirts and sweatshirts of all sizes, children's sizes to XXXL adult.

Family Court can help residents obtain an order of protection, file a violation, obtain custody of children, get child support, visitation, and provided other family related services. If some one needs to obtain or to modify a Family Court Order of Protection. While people are in court there is a free child care room at the YWCA for them to bring children. Children are not allowed into the court room, unless otherwise advised.

Responsible for the service and enforcement of orders of protection throughout Suffolk County. They also arrest individuals charged with violating orders of protection and those with family offense related warrants. The Unit provides victims with a safe refuge by removing batterers from the home, seizing weapons and executing arrest warrants against the perpetrators of domestic violence. Investigating all reported domestic incidents and providing assistance to victims of Domestic Violence. The Domestic Violence/Elder Abuse Bureau of the Suffolk County Police Department conducts confidential investigations involving domestic violence and elder abuse, and acts as a liaison to the courts, outside agencies and governmental entities. The Domestic Violence/Elder Abuse Bureau also provides outreach to victims of domestic violence and raises community awareness through education regarding family violence issues. Counseling, referrals, and crisis support will continue via whatever communication method the survivor feels comfortable using, including phone calls, video chats, texting, and emails. * Provides crisis intervention and support services to survivors of sexual assault and to their families. Services include: crisis intervention for sexual assault survivors and their significant others, hotline, short-term counseling, support through medical examinations and treatment, advocacy and support during interaction with law enforcement, court accompaniment, individual consultations with professionals, community education programs, professional training programs, and referrals for additional needed services. In Wyoming County ONLY, offers a dual Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence program, which provides the Non-Shelter Domestic Violence Services as well as the sexual assault services listed above. Domestic violence services include hotline, counseling, court accompaniment, assistance with obtaining orders of protection, and referrals for safe housing.
