The Clinic seeks to obtain legal status for its clients by means of asylum and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status. Representation is provided by upper-level law students, working under the close supervision of experienced lawyers who are clinical professors. There is no charge for clinic representation. However, the clinics have limited resources and cannot take every case, no matter how deserving. Clinic staff members meet with potential clients by appointment only. Provides representation to youths in special immigrant juvenile matters and child maltreatment cases. The clinic advocates in the Queens, Nassau and Suffolk family courts, as well as before immigration court judges and hearing officers in Manhattan, on behalf of youth in cases where the allegations range from physical and sexual abuse to educational neglect, abandonment and inadequate supervision. In addition, the clinic often represents their clients on related issues, such as delinquency, custody and school suspension matters. Provides non-residential programming to victims of domestic violence and their children.
