Provides homeless support services to families and individuals, including eviction prevention, emergency shelters, and rental assistance. Provides a Countywide Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. Offers affordable rental units in Dunkirk, Fredonia, and Jamestown. Bilingual staff available for most services.

Center for Elder Law & Justice - Chautauqua County Office

Provides free legal representation in eight counties of Western New York. The Chautauqua County office offers legal services in the areas of: - Assisted Living - Evictions - Consumer Protection - Elder Abuse Prevention - Foreclosure Prevention - Health Care Advocacy - Housing - Income Maintenance - Substituted Decision Making - Western New York Coalition Pooled Trust Also houses the Elder Advocacy Program, a cross-systems community collaboration to address elder abuse. The Elder Advocacy Program acts as a single point-of-entry for elder abuse survivors, assessing their needs and providing appropriate legal and non-legal services to end abuse and empower survivors.

HOUSING-RELATED ASSISTANCE | LEGAL SERVICES OF THE HUDSON VALLEY - MONTICELLO

Eviction Assistance: Provides help to low income who are qualified for subsidized housing and section 8 choice vouchers. For those who may not be qualified for subsidized/section 8, provide older adults, veterans, domestic violence, LGBQT, breast cancer, or individuals diagnosed with AIDS who may be a target for eviction. Landlord/Tenant Dispute Resolution: Aids individuals struggling with their landlord for reasons ranging from eviction, living conditions, recurring problems, etc. Foreclosure Assistance: helps advocate for individuals with mortgage foreclosure with guidance through the legal process and representation, if needed.

EMERGENCY COMMUNITY SERVICES HOMELESS GRANT PROGRAM | NEW ROCHELLE COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAM (CAP)

Provides advocacy and mediation for tenants and landlords in and out of court to prevent eviction or in the updating of apartments, and will help with grants up to $500 to prevent eviction to eligible individuals. Also conducts workshops to empower people to help themselves.PLEASE NOTE: Currently no direct funding available but referrals are available

HOMELESS HOUSING PROGRAM | LEWIS COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES

Provides an array of programs to address homelessness in Lewis County. Does not host an emergency shelter. If shelter emergency occurs after business hours, contact the Lewis County Sheriff at 315-376-3511 and they will contact the Department of Social Services worker assigned. Worker will provide an assessment of housing needs and make a referral to an appropriate program within the community.

EVICTION DEFENSE | VOLUNTEER LAWYERS PROJECT OF CNY

Provides on-the-spot defense to tenants who are facing eviction and/or non-payment of rent cases in Syracuse City Court. Clients are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of court. Representation is limited to that day.

HOUSING AND HOMELESS PREVENTION | NASSAU COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES

Offers shelter placements and assistance with emergency housing needs through the Department of Social Services (DSS) under the auspices of the Nassau County Office of Housing and Community Development (OHCD). Eligible individuals and families can, on an emergency, temporary basis be assisted with shelter and other items of need in order to meet their emergency. The goal is to provide families and individuals with the tools they need to secure a permanent, stable housing, and move as quickly as possible to a stable self-sufficient role in the community. In addition DSS offers assistance to a family or individual who is threatened with eviction or foreclosure, assistance may be available to save the current housing. These emergency programs are: Emergency Assistance to Adults; Emergency Assistance to Families and Emergency Safety Net Assistance. These programs were designed to meet one-time non-recurrent emergency situations. These benefits do have specific eligibility requirements, and each case receives the attention of a worker with specialized knowledge in this area. Applications for eligibility should be made at Department of Social Services as soon as the potential problem becomes known. Call for detailed information regarding all programs and services offered.

In collaboration with Cornell Law schoolClients with tenancy related legal concerns can contact the housing hotline by filling out this online intake form: https://ithacatenantresources.org/tlh or by calling 607-301-1560.The Tenants Legal Hotline provides free legal advice to residential (non-commercial) tenants. Once Hotline volunteers conduct intake, tenants are connected with a law student who works closely with a licensed attorney to provide the brief advice.
