The Housing programs help people with a variety of housing goals and needs. For some clients, keeping their home and avoiding foreclosure is a challenge. We can help via our foreclosure prevention counseling, where we look for programs that help people keep their homes. Others may be preparing to buy a home for the first time, and we can help them too with our pre-purchase counseling and Essentials for Buying your First Home program. We also offer reverse mortgage counseling, rental counseling, and a few other services, programs, and educational opportunities.

The Hudson Valley Justice Center (HVJC) offers individuals facing eviction across Westchester, Orange, Dutchess, Putnam, Sullivan, and Ulster Counties. direct representation and advice regardless of immigration status. HVJC will prioritize cases where clients are ineligible for other rental assistance programs.

Eviction Assistance: Provides help to low income who are qualified for subsidized housing and section 8 choice vouchers. For those who may not be qualified for subsidized/section 8, provide older adults, veterans, domestic violence, LGBQT, breast cancer, or individuals diagnosed with AIDS who may be a target for eviction. Landlord/Tenant Dispute Resolution: Aids individuals struggling with their landlord for reasons ranging from eviction, living conditions, recurring problems, etc. Foreclosure Assistance: helps advocate for individuals with mortgage foreclosure with guidance through the legal process and representation, if needed.

Services also include negotiating with landlords, and information and referrals to other agencies to help with re-location and other housing needs. Also offers budget counseling to help families become more self-reliant.

Provides information and referrals for individuals needing help with find affordable housing, eviction assistance, and other housing-related issues.

Provides intensive case management for tenants at risk of eviction by assisting with administrative and/or judicial responses to local court actions, mediate between landlords and tenants, help prepare repayment plans, assist in identifying and collecting resources (financial and other), and prepare meritorious defense.

Assists in resolving landlord-tenant issues and identify legal and other resources that may be helpful. Also provides eviction prevention grants to renters, and relocation help for the homeless based on completing application and providing documents. If help cannot be provided then a referral can be made for assistance from another agency.

Offers general legal aid to people 200 percent below the poverty income guidelines.

Variety of federal and state cash assistance programs including but not limited to temporary assistance and employment. Evaluates and processes families and individuals who demonstrate the need for financial assistance. Regularly re-determines eligibility and makes case adjustments reflecting changes in the circumstances of the household.

Provides housing assistance in various ways, such as landlord/tenant mediation and eviction prevention. Also maintains apartment listings. Works with other agencies to provide assistance. When no other alternative exists, may provide a motel voucher for homeless people living in Sullivan County. An eligibility assessment is conducted and a voucher is granted if the person qualifies. Call local police department for after hours and for local shelter. ** Note: Have callers who need after hours shelter assistance to go DIRECTLY to Village of Monticello Police Department IF they are in that area; if they do NOT have transportation to the village, have callers contact the Village's police department for further details. Outside of area they are to contact the Sullivan County Police Department to make arrangements and find out details for after-hours shelters.

LSHV Westchester Eviction Prevention Hotline.

Offers shelter placements and assistance with emergency housing needs through the Department of Social Services (DSS) under the auspices of the Nassau County Office of Housing and Community Development (OHCD). Eligible individuals and families can, on an emergency, temporary basis be assisted with shelter and other items of need in order to meet their emergency. The goal is to provide families and individuals with the tools they need to secure a permanent, stable housing, and move as quickly as possible to a stable self-sufficient role in the community. In addition DSS offers assistance to a family or individual who is threatened with eviction or foreclosure, assistance may be available to save the current housing. These emergency programs are: Emergency Assistance to Adults; Emergency Assistance to Families and Emergency Safety Net Assistance. These programs were designed to meet one-time non-recurrent emergency situations. These benefits do have specific eligibility requirements, and each case receives the attention of a worker with specialized knowledge in this area. Applications for eligibility should be made at Department of Social Services as soon as the potential problem becomes known. NCCRS is a program of the Rural Law Center of New York, Inc. The organization is staffed by mediation professionals and certified community volunteers, and is part of the statewide Community mediation Centers Program administered by the New York State Unified Court System.

Housing program that seeks affordable housing for those who are homeless, in need of new housing, or eviction prevention services.

Provides a variety of services and assistance directed at the prevention of homelessness and preservation of housing.

Provides advocacy and mediation for tenants and landlords in and out of court to prevent eviction or in the updating of apartments, and will help with grants up to $500 to prevent eviction to eligible individuals.
