Provides full deportation defense services for clients most at-risk of deportation. The Clinic defends clients in need of motions to reopen prior removal orders, facing false gang allegations, seeking release on bond, and victims of trafficking seeking relief. The clinic provides legal screenings for relief, responds to ICE raids, represents clients detained in ICE jails, litigates in immigration court (such as master calendar, bond, and individual hearings), administrative advocacy with USCIS and at asylum interviews, and appellate litigation before the Board of Immigration Appeals and in Federal Court. Also provide Impact litigation. We challenge policies and practices that harm the immigrant community on Long Island and in New York. In addition we provide Community advocacy. We advocate for human, civil, and constitutional rights for immigrant communities on Long Island and in New York through collaborations with legal service providers, legal trainings, professional development, legislative and administrative advocacy, and community organizing. Houses several projects, including the New York Immigrant Family Unity Program, which is an attempt to create a "public defender" style program for men detained at the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility in Batavia.
Represents unaccompanied children, who must appear in Buffalo for removal proceedings. Also recruits, trains, and mentors pro bono lawyers to represent these children.
