Provides a chance for individuals to tell an Administrative Law Judge from the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, Office of Administrative Hearings, why they think a decision about their case made by a local social services agency is wrong. The Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance will then issue a written decision which will state whether the local agency's decision was wrong or right. The written decision may order the local agency to correct the case. When calling the 711 Relay Services, request the operator call 1-877-502-6155. Service at this number will only be provided to callers using TDD equipment.

Provides civil legal services in the following areas: - Family Law: Assists with domestic violence cases, as well as with child support and divorce cases on a limited basis. - Housing: * Until further notice, the Housing Unit can only provide assistance with ERAP application issues and illegal lockout emergencies (ex: landlord changed locks, stopped a utility, etc. without going to court); cannot assist with any other housing-related issues at this time.* Typically assists with evictions, housing conditions, Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) issues, public and subsidized housing applications, terminations, illegal lockouts, landlord/tenant matters, and other issues. - Disability: Assists with SSI Appeals, SSI/SSD applications, advocacy for disabled individuals, benefits counseling, and funding of medical equipment. - Public Benefits: Assists with public assistance, food stamps/SNAP, Medicaid, denial of emergency rental and/or utility assistance, and homeless benefits. - Consumer Law: Assists with unfair debt collection practices and wage garnishment. Does not handle criminal cases, traffic tickets, money damage actions, estate work and real estate closings, torts, small claims court cases, worker's compensation cases, or unemployment.

Provides free information, referrals, advice, and representation to persons who have received utility disconnect notices, whose utility has already been disconnected, who have been denied Emergency Utility Assistance or HEAP through ECDSS, or who have another utility related issue. If denied, applicants should get their denial in writing, then call the Utility Disconnection Hotline for possible representation. The applicant has 60 days from the date of the denial to request a Fair Hearing.
