Provides a food pantry for Veterans, the Military and their families, and families in need. LI Cares hosts Military Appreciation Tuesdays in Huntington Station, Lindenhurst, and Freeport which gives veterans and their families access to food, personal care items, household products, pet food, and school supplies. Also veterans are provided with information and resources pertaining to veteran specific benefits. LI Cares also operates a Mobile Pantry which delivers nutritious groceries to homebound, disabled veterans unable to access their local pantries.

Informs and assist members of the armed forces, veterans, their dependents and survivors in relation to (1) matters pertaining to education, training and retraining services and facilities, (2) health, medical and rehabilitation services and facilities, (3) provisions of federal, state and local laws and regulations affording special rights and privileges to members of the armed forces, veterans and their families, (4) employment and re-employment services, and other matters of similar related or appropriate nature. A transition program for severely injured service members returning home from Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF)/Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Services include: welcome-home celebration, temporary financial assistance, pro-bono financial planning, housing assistance, home and vehicle adaptation, government claims assistance and family support.

Offers counseling and claims development services such as filing applications with the Department of Veteran's Affairs for compensation, pension, education, survivor's benefits, and burial benefits. Assists veterans and their families with local and New York State benefits.

Hudson River Housing offers housing options suited for veterans in need. HRH veteran Specialist Care Manager is available by referral basis to help you navigate housing, employment opportunities, healthcare and benefits.

Provides timely federal tax-related information to Veterans about tax credits and benefits, free tax preparation, financial education and asset-building opportunities available to Veterans. Check website for more information.

Provides assistance to veterans in applying for federal, state and other benefits, such as blind annuity, real property tax exemption, discharge papers, replacing military records, application for medals, upgrading or correcting military discharges and referrals to other benefit agencies, dependency and indemnity compensation, death pension, VA life insurance claims and annual eligibility verification.

Provides a myriad of supportive services to very low-income Veteran families who are residing in permanent housing, are homeless and scheduled to become residents of permanent housing within a specified time period, or after exiting permanent housing, are seeking other housing that is responsive to such very low-income veteran family's needs and preferences. Support services include personal financial planning services, income support services, legal services, housing search and counseling, vocational and rehabilitation services through the New York State Department of Labor, employment training through the Suffolk County One-Stop Employment Center, outreach services, peer support, case management services, assistance obtaining VA benefits and other public benefits.

Established to help families of U.S. military personnel who were killed or seriously injured during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Call for more information.

Provides a 24 hour Emergency Communications system to keep military personnel in touch with families during family emergencies, such as illness, death, births and provides military personnel and their commanders the information needed to enable emergency leave, compassionate reassignment, and dependency discharge. Secures emergency financial assistance. Provides counseling, referrals, and other social services. Provides support services to patients in Veterans Administration Hospitals.

Administers a variety of benefits and services that provide financial and other forms of assistance to Veterans, their dependents, and survivors. Major benefits include Veterans' compensation, Veterans' pension, Survivors' benefits, rehabilitation and employment assistance, education assistance, home loan guaranties, and life insurance coverage.

Offers a volunteer service provided by veterans for veterans. Any veteran requesting DAV transport should call at least two (2) weeks before an appointment. The DAV Transportation Coordinator will determine eligibility and availability of transportation. Since space is limited, you must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance. Offers assistance enrolling in VA health care programs and transitioning from military to civilian life as well as accessing additional community resources. Also provides assistance with other veterans benefits including education benefits, disability compensation, home loans, and employment assistance.

Provides additional services from its own general fund (from donations from both corporate and individual supporters). Some of these services include: holiday assistance, transportation, car donation, repairs and registration, moving assistance into permanent housing, recreational activities including BBQs, fishing trips and sporting events.

Help veterans obtain disability (and thus, often, health care) benefits and apply for discharge upgrades. Students may help veterans submit disability claims to the Department of Veterans Affairs, work on appeals of denied claims, and help veterans obtain increases in disability ratings, for cases in which increases are justified by a veteran’s service record and health status. Students also may help veterans upgrade other-than-honorable discharges from the military so that these veterans become eligible for disability and health care benefits. Working alongside physicians, other clinicians and experienced attorneys, students help veterans with service-connected disabilities establish that their disabling conditions are service-connected. Provides free legal assistance to veterans and their families. The clinic gives priority to matters that will prevent or relieve homelessness or remove barriers to the reintegration of veterans into civilian life. Typical matters handled in the clinic include: Landlord-tenant/eviction; Debt relief/collection; Bankruptcy; Mortgage Foreclosure; Driver’s license restoration; Child support modification; Unemployment insurance; Warrants and fines; Income tax; Benefits applications and appeals and Discharge upgrades. All representation is free of charge and strictly confidential. Representation is provided by upper-level law students, working under the close supervision of experienced lawyers who are clinical professors. There is no charge for clinic representation.
