Helps consumers to resolve their coverage disputes with health plans and ensures that they are receiving the care that they are entitled to under state law. The helpline aids people claim their benefits when the insurance denies coverage, assist with health care billing and payment problems, obtain their guaranteed health benefits, and investigate when people have lost their insurance coverage.
Provides full deportation defense services for clients most at-risk of deportation. The Clinic defends clients in need of motions to reopen prior removal orders, facing false gang allegations, seeking release on bond, and victims of trafficking seeking relief. The clinic provides legal screenings for relief, responds to ICE raids, represents clients detained in ICE jails, litigates in immigration court (such as master calendar, bond, and individual hearings), administrative advocacy with USCIS and at asylum interviews, and appellate litigation before the Board of Immigration Appeals and in Federal Court. Also provide Impact litigation. We challenge policies and practices that harm the immigrant community on Long Island and in New York. In addition we provide Community advocacy. We advocate for human, civil, and constitutional rights for immigrant communities on Long Island and in New York through collaborations with legal service providers, legal trainings, professional development, legislative and administrative advocacy, and community organizing. Provides housing assistance in various ways, such as landlord/tenant mediation and eviction prevention. Also maintains apartment listings. Works with other agencies to provide assistance. When no other alternative exists, may provide a motel voucher for homeless people living in Sullivan County. An eligibility assessment is conducted and a voucher is granted if the person qualifies. Call local police department for after hours and for local shelter. ** Note: Have callers who need after hours shelter assistance to go DIRECTLY to Village of Monticello Police Department IF they are in that area; if they do NOT have transportation to the village, have callers contact the Village's police department for further details. Outside of area they are to contact the Sullivan County Police Department to make arrangements and find out details for after-hours shelters.

Information and counseling is provided about different types of government programs, including federal and state financial assistance programs, and county-wide benefits. You can meet one-on-one with a trained counselor at one of our library-based locations. Spanish interpreter can be made available by appointment.
