Recovers parentally abducted children and helps to resolve parental custodial disputes through the use of: professional family mediators the toll free number for in-flight and contemplating parents preventative counseling for parents contemplating abduction of their children and referrals to additional agencies and services.

Operates a national 24-hour toll-free hotline, to intake reports of missing and sexually exploited children (ages 17 and under) and receive leads about ongoing cases. Also serves as the national resource center and information clearinghouse for missing and exploited children. Also operates the CyberTipline, that the public and electronic service providers may use to report Internet-related child sexual exploitation.

Offers child safety program training to prevent child abduction. Programs offered to private organizations, school curriculum, childrens workshops and assemblies, parent workshops, staff development, and child identification(includes fingerprinting).

Offers a free program which enables relatives or caregivers to register persons with special needs in the Police Department’s database. This information will be furnished to first responders and police officers responding to an emergency situation involving the registrant. Special Needs/Silver Alert program is designed for people with: Dementia (including Alzheimer’s Disease); Developmental Disabilities (including Autism Spectrum, Mental Retardation/Mental Impairment); Severe Mental Illness and Other cognitive disorders that may impair reasoning, resulting in a person wandering or being disoriented/lost. Registrants can also request to receive an identification bracelet by checking the box on the Special Needs/Silver Alert Registry form. The bracelet is free of charge and contains a distinctive I.D. number as well as a Suffolk County Police Department phone number which first responders can utilize to obtain information regarding that person. Helps find missing children through pre-registration program, through the national dissemination of photos of missing children to businesses and corporations, and through networking efforts with law enforcement, state clearinghouse personnel, social service agencies and missing children agencies.

Reconnects families separated from relatives overseas, due to disaster or conflicts. Also assists families with members who are survivors of the Holocaust in locating or obtaining information on friends or families they lost contact with at the time of the war.

Provides national efforts to locate and recover missing children and raises public awareness about ways to prevent child abduction, molestation, and sexual exploitation as well as offering child safety information and literature on various topics. Also provides advocacy, prevention programs, family support, and an on line location for reporting internet child pornography (the Cyber Tip Line).
