Caseworkers help families locate missing relatives by working with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Red Cross, and Red Crescent organizations in nearly every country around the world.

Specific services and responsibilities include: - 1-800-346-3543 Hotline (case intake and lead information received on this line) - Short and long term investigative assistance - Preparation and electronic distribution of DCJS Missing Child/College Student and Missing Adult Alerts statewide. LOCATER (Lost Child Alert Technology Resource), Xpedite, and NY Alert allow for repaid distribution of photographic images and biographical information within minutes - Placement of missing child and vulnerable adult photographs and biographical information on the DCJS and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) web sites - Development and distribution of printed missing child posters statewide - Co-coordination of statewide implementation and operation of the NYS AMBER Alert Program, which provides law enforcement agencies with a mechanism for rapid and widespread public dissemination of information in the event of a child abduction - Administration of the statewide missing/unidentified person repository (mandated "flagging" missing child birth and educational records is facilitated through the use of this data) - Analysis, transcription, and entry of dental and anatomical information into DCJS and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) files on behalf of law enforcement agencies and medical examiners - Collaboration with NCMEC and other state clearinghouses - Presentation of investigative training programs for law enforcement officers, along with development and dissemination of investigative procedures and guides - Furthering investigative and educational efforts instituted pursuant to the US Department of Justice funded NYS Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force Program - Development and distribution of child safety literature - Ongoing community outreach, including presentations about child and Internet safety to various groups and organizations
