Provides in-home education and support to parents with children at-risk of out-of-home placement because of neglect or abuse. Staff visits family in their homes, providing individualized instruction tailored to the parents strengths and needs such as providing a safe and healthy environment for their child or children, child development and parenting skills, conflict management strategies, goal-setting, and accessing community resources.

Works to preserve the safety of the citizens and reintegration of offenders back into the community including an intake diversion unit , adult sex offender treatment program, juvenile sex offender treatment program, juvenile arson prevention program (the youth fire program), pretrial release, community service, adult intensive supervision, electronic home monitoring, local conditional release, juvenile intensive supervision, and juvenile community service.

Information regarding underaged gambling, the signs of problem gambling and information about resources for those affected by problem gambling provided through presentations to community groups, health and human service providers, businesses, schools and colleges. You(th) Decide NY - empowers teenaged youth to learn about the dangers of underage Gambling and to share that knowledge with their peers, parents, and communities.

Educates youth about their legal rights, increase their decision-making skills, teach them how to interact responsibly with police and other authority figures, and offer advice about how to stay safe when confronted with law enforcement.

Investigates all crimes that involve persons under the age of 16 years. The Juvenile Offices are located within City Hall separate from the police department complex. This affords parents and juveniles a more comfortable and private atmosphere in which to talk to the Juvenile Officers.

Provides prevention and intervention programs. Serves as a safety net for young people who find themselves entering the criminal justice system or for those who are at risk out in the community and not currently on probation. Focuses on working with youth ages 12-15 who have been deemed as "at-risk", including those who have a PINS or JD status through the family court or probation system, as well as those referred from the school district and community. Provides case management and groups, such as an Aggression Replacement Training (ART) group, in order to reduce recidivism. Bi-weekly school visits and monthly home visits are provided, as well as daily reporting during programming hours to participate in groups, individual sessions, and recreational activities as mandated by the court or their probation officer. Outside of standard programming hours, a hotline is in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in order to assist families with emergency situations.

Offers diversion services to prevent juvenile offenders from being sent to Family Court. Youth are referred from schools, parents, law enforcement agencies and other community agencies. This is a voluntary program. Both the parents and youth must agree to participate. Youth must be deemed truant, incorrigible or runaways.

Provides one of the most vital units throughout the Sheriff’s office. Throughout the year, Community Relations Unit visits each Suffolk County School District as well as multiple clubs and various organizations. Its main goal is to bridge the gap between Law Enforcement and the members of the Community. CRU is responsible for implementing community outreach and school-based programs, organizing events, and promoting the Sheriff’s mission. Presents a program that is an evidence-based curriculum offered in many states throughout the nation. The classroom curriculum is taught by Suffolk County Deputy Sheriffs and Correction Officers who received specialized training to present to elementary and middle school students. Prevention as its primary objective, the program aims to prevent bullying, youth crime, violence, drug use, and gang involvement while promoting a positive relationship among law enforcement, families, and our youth. G.R.E.A.T. Lessons focus on life skills designed to help students avoid using delinquent behavior and violence to solve problems, and further helps them make positive choices in life.
