Provides diversion programs such as fingerprinting, Halloween safety, bicycle safety, police department tours, parent education, D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), Juvenile Delinquents, P.I.N.S., etc., for children under 16.

Offers various programs for community involvement to become aware and to help prevent crime, such as neighborhood watch, youth police academy, gang information, and other referrals for youth involvement also.

Provides an anti-vandalism project, indoor recreation, an opportunity for youth to develop interpersonal relationships, and provides an opportunity for youth grades 7-12 to become constructively involved in meaningful use of free time.

Provides prevention and intervention programs. Serves as a safety net for young people who find themselves entering the criminal justice system or for those who are at risk out in the community and not currently on probation. Focuses on working with youth ages 12-15 who have been deemed as "at-risk", including those who have a PINS or JD status through the family court or probation system, as well as those referred from the school district and community. Provides case management and groups, such as an Aggression Replacement Training (ART) group, in order to reduce recidivism. Bi-weekly school visits and monthly home visits are provided, as well as daily reporting during programming hours to participate in groups, individual sessions, and recreational activities as mandated by the court or their probation officer. Outside of standard programming hours, a hotline is in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in order to assist families with emergency situations.

Provides high intensity case management for youth in order to reduce the rate of recidivism in among youth in the community. Services include home visits, school visits, crisis intervention, court advocacy, family assistance, case reviews, anger control groups, and participation in restorative justice efforts.

Educates youth about their legal rights, increase their decision-making skills, teach them how to interact responsibly with police and other authority figures, and offer advice about how to stay safe when confronted with law enforcement.

Offers a temporary home for 11 to 18 year old children who are court mandated. Provides a school program, individual counseling, and group dynamics. The Our Lady of Peace Academy is a free standing alternative school for grades 7 through 12. Individualized instruction and private tutoring is provided by qualified teachers.

Goal of the At-Risk Youth Jail Tour is to educate youth about the potential consequences of poor choices. A growing number of Suffolk County`s youth are in danger of falling prey to criminal and gang activity. Young teens especially face peer pressures that often make them act in ways that help them become “accepted” by a group, but they have no idea about the consequences of their behavior. As a result, many young people at an early age begin what may become a painful life of criminal behavior. These tours must be scheduled in advance and the youth must be accompanied by a parent. Offers a supervision program for at-risk, pre-teen and youngsters under the age of 16. Focuses on establishing a discipline structure within the family with parenting skills offered. Supervised study group for at-risk juveniles failing subjects. Youth counselors function as parent advocate for juveniles needing services of the Justice and/or Mental Health System. Provides one of the most vital units throughout the Sheriff’s office. Throughout the year, Community Relations Unit visits each Suffolk County School District as well as multiple clubs and various organizations. Its main goal is to bridge the gap between Law Enforcement and the members of the Community. CRU is responsible for implementing community outreach and school-based programs, organizing events, and promoting the Sheriff’s mission. Staff visits family in their homes, providing individualized instruction tailored to the parents strengths and needs such as providing a safe and healthy environment for their child or children, child development and parenting skills, conflict management strategies, goal-setting, and accessing community resources.
