* Provides constitutionally mandated legal representation in criminal matters to people who cannot afford to pay for their own lawyer. Represents some clients of the office in Family Court cases in which clients are entitled to legal representation.* Handles matters involving felonies, misdemeanors, appeals, parole, probation, vehicle and traffic, and some simple violations of law in Ontario County Court, Geneva, and Canandaigua City Court, Drug Court, and the various Justice Courts in Ontario County. Handles arraignment at the Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) and Youth Part.
Prosecutes criminal offenses committed within Tompkins County, from felonies (murder, rape, robbery, etc.) to traffic infractions (speeding, etc.).Child sexual abuse reporting: incest or in-family abuse, District attorney or NYS Child Abuse and Maltreatment Register, 1-800-342-3720 abuse by someone outside the family or relative not living in the same home, district attorney, local or state policeFor civil matters affecting Tompkins County: County Attorney's Office, 607-274-5546.For federal crimes: handled by prosecutors in the U. * Represents defendants accused of crimes in the Town, Village and County Courts. Also represents individuals involved in Family Court matters.
Accepts and investigates consumer fraud reports including reports about charities and nonprofits. Also the state counsel and Medicaid fraud unit. Provides assistance to victims of crimes that happened within New York State.

The District Attorney's Office prosecutes on behalf of the people of Rockland County, all individuals, both adult and juvenile, accused of felonies, misdemeanors, and infractions occurring within the County. Additionally, highly trained and experienced members of the District Attorney's Office provide services to victims and witnesses of crime, including crisis counseling, orientation to the criminal justice system and community referrals.
Represents the Town and the Town Board in litigation. Approves all legal matters before they are presented to the Town Board.
