AARP volunteers assist low to moderate income taxpayers, especially those 60 and older, with free tax preparation services. This service is offered during tax season January-April. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is offered in cooperation with the IRS. Check your local public library for their tax prep schedule.

Provides in person and virtual tax help to taxpayers. Volunteers are trained to prepare tax forms for New York income tax. Intake paper work will need to be filled in advance of appointment. The forms can be picked up at the Bethany Lutheran Church (256 S Walnut St.) or the Office for the Aging (425 PA Ave.) The program will be using a 2 visit scanning model. Bring tax paper work and it will be scanned for the first visit approximately 15 min, 2nd visit will receive printed copy of returns and will need to sign permission to send returns.

Counselors taught income tax preparation and computer operation by IRS-trained AARP Tax-Aide volunteer instructors. Commitment runs from Feb 1st to April 13th. Volunteers with knowledge of computers and 1040 Tax Forms do both federal and state income taxes. Classes for volunteers begin on Jan 3rd.
