The Debt Management Program (DMP) gives participants a personalized, structured, repayment plan to address each creditors requirements. Unlike a bankruptcy or debt settlement, clients repay 100% of the original debt over several years.
The consumer will be asked to provide information about income, household expenses and debts so a full budget analysis can be made. Alternatives to bankruptcy will be explained along with any options that may help the financial situation. A complete overview of the bankruptcy process including advantages and disadvantages of bankruptcy will be provided. Clients that complete this counseling will be issued a certificate which is required for filing a bankruptcy.
Families suffering under the burden of debt can speak with a real attorney at no charge, to determine if bankruptcy would allow them a fresh start. Also, those falling behind on mortgage payments may discuss how a chapter 13 bankruptcy can stop foreclosure and save the family home.
Will represent debtors in Chapter 13 Proceedings, in which debtors arrange a multi-year payment plan to pay outstanding debts and avoid liquidation. Representation is provided by upper-level law students, working under the close supervision of experienced lawyers who are clinical professors. There is no charge for clinic representation. However, the clinics have limited resources and cannot take every case, no matter how deserving. Clinic staff members meet with potential clients by appointment only.
