Provides rental housing assistance through Federal Section 8 Programs for seniors and disabled individuals.

Federal rental subsidy program funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Assists low income constituents of the Town of Babylon by paying a portion of their rent allowing them to afford decent and safe housing.

Serves the towns of Brookhaven, East Hampton, Riverhead, Shelter Island, Smithtown, Southampton and Southold.

40 family units of 2,3,4 or 5 bedroom apartments at Mountaindale Road site, 10 family units at Maple Avenue site, with 1 bedroom apartments given preference to elderly and disabled persons. Two apartments at Maple Avenue are handicapped accessible and 1 apartment at Maple Avenue site is for hearing impaired.

Assists low and moderate-income residents of the Town of Islip with housing and public service programs and eliminates blighted and deteriorated conditions in the Town's neighborhoods and commercial districts. Programs include housing rehabilitation for low income Islip homeowners, affordable housing for prospective first time homebuyers, commercial storefront improvements in downtown target areas, and promoting energy efficiency for all Islip homeowners. The entire township of Islip is eligible for most programs, with other programs targeted to downtown target areas in Bay Shore, Brentwood and Central Islip.

PUBLIC HOUSING: 27 developments throughout city. Eligible applicants are placed on a site-based waiting list at the time of application. When their position on the waiting list is reached, they are offered units in their chosen development. Eligibility requires meeting the low income limits for the number of persons in their family. Placement factors: date of application, priority and preferences, broad range of income. Waiting lists may close if applications exceed supply. SECTION 8: Vouchers provided to qualified applicants for use in obtaining Section 8 qualified apartments throughout the area. Eligibility varies based on individual waiting lists. ##REENTRY##
